Using ipmitool, I accidentally deleted the "FRU Product Serial Number" field from the FRU on my Intel S2600 server. To fix this, I followed the instructions in http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/updating_frusdr_on_epsd_server.pdf http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/updating_frusdr_on_epsd_server.pdf (section 2.6) and attempted to update the SDR and FRU. As I was about to enter values for the product info area, the process failed on me (see attachment). How can I reset the FRU on this board?
Below is the output from running ipmi-fru -h ip6-localhost:

Hi!
Based on the attached picture, I noticed the "Unknown Error" took place right after attempting to enter the product part number, not before, which indicates the product info. area of the FRU got updated, alright. Besides, just below the "Error: Unknown Error" message, another "FRUSDR update completed" wording showed up. My concern is the "FRU Error: board info area checksum invalid" message at the bottom of output you provided. This may very well point to a BIOS corruption. To begin troubleshooting this, I recommend the following:
1. Boot the system into BIOS, load up the BIOS default settings and clear the system event log. This option is found under the Server Management tab.
2. Reboot and attempt to update the FRU area, only:
Note: Ensure the chassis lid is closed before running the update.
3. If the situation still persists, then, proceed clearing the CMOS as follows:
3.1. Shut the system down; unplug the power cord(s).
3.2. Remove the RTC (Real Time Clock) battery and leave it out for one minute, at least.
3.3. After this period of time, insert the battery back in, turn the system back on, and test.
