Hi,
I need some help on this card....
I plan to use the motherboard in an server build that I'm doing.
Is the CPU compability updated (http://ark.intel.com/products/88272/Intel-Server-Board-S1200SPS Intel® Server Board S1200SPS Product Specifications) ?
I need an CPU with integrated graphics (since this motherboard does not have Integrated Graphics), but none of these cpu's has that. What is the point in the VGA port if none of the compatbile cpu's has an integrated GPU.
I only need console for when I'm installing the OS (ESXI).
I know that the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1225 v5 got an GPU but this cpu is not listed as supported. Is this CPU supported?
Thank you :-)
/Jo Christian

Hello Jo Christian,
Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.
In regards to your question you can check the list of supported processors for the Intel® Server Board S1200SPS by clicking http://ark.intel.com/products/88272/Intel-Server-Board-S1200SPS here .
The Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1225 v5 is not currently supported.
Now you can install the operating system using the integrated graphics controller, that comes with the following features:
Integrated Graphics Core with 2d hardware accelerator
Support display resolutions up to 1920 x 1200
High speed Integrated 24-bit RAMDAC
You can check all the specifications http://http//www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/S1200SP_TPS_R1_1_S1200SPL_S1200SPS_S1200SPO.pdf here page 30
Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance.
Regards,
Sergio S.

Hi Sergio,
Thanks for your reply.
So the 1200SPS does have an integrated GPU? According to the product specification it does not (I'm confused)....
Regarding the CPU.. Here in Norway none of the CPU's ins the supported processors list are for sale anymore (I have checked several stores).
I can choose from these E3-1200 V5 familiy CPUs:
Intel Xeon E3-1225 V5
Intel Xeon E3-1275 V5
Intel Xeon E3-1245 V5
All other E3-1200 are from V6 family... So no new CPUs supported in bios updates?
The 1200SPS card itself is for sale several places..
Thanks you
/Jo Christian

Hello Jo Christian,
We appreciate your reply.
I checked the information on the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/S1200SP_TPS_R1_1_S1200SPL_S1200SPS_S1200SPO.pdf technical product specifications (TPS) and the S1200SPS does come with integrated graphics (see image attached). You can locate this information on page 3 of the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/S1200SP_TPS_R1_1_S1200SPL_S1200SPS_S1200SPO.pdf TPS.
Additionally, I checked that the most recent version of the bios https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26665/Intel-Server-Board-S1200SP-Firmware-Update-Package-for-EFI?product=88263 02.01.0055 enables support for V6 processors. You can find more detailed information in the https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26665/eng/ReleaseNotes_BIOS_R02.01.0055.txt README file of the update package
I hope this information helps.
Regards,
Sergio S

Hello Griffin,
You are correct, both the S1200SPO and S1200SPOR comes with VGA ports for out output video.

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply, so if i put any compatible CPU in this board and turn it on, i get video from the VGA connector? (sounds like a basic question, always good to be sure though).

Hi,
Yes, you should be able to get video out of the VGA header.

Hi,
This thread can be closed :-)
I ended up buying an PowerEdge T30 instead of building something myself. Mostly because the Xenon CPU that the S1200SPS supports, is not for sale anymore here in Norway it seems.

The E3 is quiet a slow CPU also, we are moving from DX79 desktop series which is an E5, and about 20% faster.... not sure why Intel did that to be honest. however the S1200 is a way smaller board for what it does...
