Hello everybody,
I'm currently running a single E5-2609v3 in my S2600CWT Mainboard. I just did a Bios Update to the latest Version (01.01.016 I think).
In the changelog it says it supports v3 as well als v4 CPUs.
On the ARK Page for my mainboard, it says it is only compatible with the v3.
The question is, whether my Mainboard is compatible to the newer Gen v4 CPUs?
Kind regards,
Jannik

Hello Jannik,
Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.
The Intel® Server Board S2600CWT is not compatible with Gen v4 processors.
I would like to share thehttps://serverconfigurator.intel.com/exalt/RequestManager?ServletNumber=1&dynamicUser=Y&localinfo=0&RestrictionVal=SVG&APPLICATIONCODE=1 Intel® Server Configurator Tool, here you can tried different combinations and check for compatibility. In addition to this, http://ark.intel.com/products/83028/Intel-Server-Board-S2600CWT# @specifications ark.intel.com is great for this purposes.

Thank you for your fast response.
The S2600CWT is (still) part of the S2600CW Family, right?
Looking at the release notes for the latest bios (https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25979/eng/Release%20Notes.txt https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25979/eng/Release%20Notes.txt), it states that it would support Gen v4 processors.
How am I supposed to understand that?
Kind redgards,
Jannik

Hello,
That is correct, the Intel® Server Board S2600CWT is part of the Intel® S2600CW Family.
What happens with BIOS firmware is that it is applicable for all the server board in that family.
I would like to share this comparison chart between the server board part of the http://ark.intel.com/compare/83028,83030,88278,88276,88275,88273 Intel® S2600CW Family.

So did the latest Bios Update add compatibility for Gen v4 processors for the S2600CWT?

Hello,
No, it will not add compatibility for that. As mentioned before, the Intel® Server Board S2600CWT can only support Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v3 product family.

Hi,
I'm sure S2600CW with latest BIOS will run any V4 CPU, as any other WT, KP or TP PCSD non "R" boards.
Please have a look again on this matter.

Hello SaarBlitz,
thank you for your support!
I investigated further and took a look inside the BIOS files:
The latest Bios shows the following mCodes:
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
|No| CPUID | Platform | Version | Date | Size Hex |
+--+----------+----------+----------+------------+----------+
|01| 000306F2 | 6F | 00000037 | 26-02-2016 | 00008000 |
|02| 000406F1 | EB | 0B000017 | 09-03-2016 | 00005C00 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
Whereas the older BIOSes only show:
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
|No| CPUID | Platform | Version | Date | Size Hex |
+--+----------+----------+----------+------------+----------+
|01| 000306F2 | 6F | 00000032 | 09-06-2015 | 00007800 |
+-----------------------------------------------------------+
As you can see, support for CPUID 406F1 was added. I looked up the CPUID on cpu-world and it is indeed referencing a v4 processor.
As you mentioned, could Intel please look again at this topic and give a statement.
Thanks,
Jannik

Hello,
The http://ark.intel.com/products/83028/Intel-Server-Board-S2600CWT Intel® Server Board S2600CWT will not work with processors v4. Even when updating the firmware.
In hardware terms it is not compatible, only processors v3. Having the latest firmware will be just half of the implementation. And here is where the http://ark.intel.com/products/88275/Intel-Server-Board-S2600CWTR Intel® Server Board S2600CWTR comes to bring the opportunity to use processors v4.

Hello,
We would like to offer our sincere apologies on this topic. We mistakenly provided the support for this case.
After reviewing with engineering, there is a way to make this work as expected. Initially, the Intel Server Board S2600CWT will not support v4 processors before the update. However, if the update [01.01.016] is run with v3 processors and then you change this processors for v4 processors, they will work.
We care about our customers above all else.
