S2600WT BMC 1.60 KVM fault during Entering setup

I has R1208WFTYS platform with S2600WT motherboard, with installed AXXRMM4LTE2 module. Yesterday was BMC version 1.29 and BIOS version 01.0009.

I apply two upgrades by USB stick and EFI shell from Intel firstly S2600WF_SFUP_BIOSR0013_ME04.00.04.294.0_BMC1.43.91f76955_FRUSDR1.43.zip, then S2600WF_SFUP_BIOSR0014_ME04.00.04.340.0_BMC1.60.56383bef_FRUSDR1.60.zip

Now BMC version 1.60, BIOS version 01.0014, in RMM4 shown

BIOS ID : SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847

BMC FW Rev : 1.60.56383bef

Access to BMC throw BaseBoard, static IP

I enable KVM/Console redirection, then reboot server from OS, during reboot press F2 in KVM. View "Entering setup..." on KVM screen.... and then KVM fault!

I can't connect to RMM4, no https and KVM access. Techsupport from datacenter tell me, server in Setup mode.

As result, if I want change something in Setup by KVM I got full unavailable server and must call techsupport for reboot it. Seems, KVM with throw BaseBoard access disconnected from network during Entering setup.

Please, help me, I need access to Setup throw KVM remote console.

Hello Dmitri,

Thank you for joining the community.

Looking at the downloadcenter.intel.com the latest BIOS version available is R01.01.0027 which contains the BMC Firmware: 01.53.11210. It is possible that version 1.60 has been removed because of this issue but I could not find any official information related.

I could suggest you to try to do a downgrade process and install the latest available from this following URL: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28002/Intel-Server-Board-S2600WT-BIOS-and-Firmware-Update-for-EFI?product=78562 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28002/Intel-Server-Board-S2600WT-BIOS-and-Firmware-Update-for-EFI?product=78562

To do a downgrade procedure please follow the next steps:

In order to downgrade the firmware version for a mother board it is needed to follow the next steps:

1.Find the server Board inside the chassis. In this case was Intel® Server Board S2600WTTR according to ARK.

2.From the system BIOS Main Screen you are able to get the current revision loaded on the board. In this case was "R01.01.0029"

3.Please go to the download center (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ https://downloadcenter.intel.com/) and look for the board found on ARK. (S2600WTTR)

4.In the download center, you will be able to find the last firmware revisions for the board, in this case (versions separated by a ","): R01.01.0027, R01.01.0024, R01.01.0022, R01.01.0021, R01.01.0020, R01.01.0019, R01.01.0018, R01.01.0016, R01.01.0015, 1.01.0014, 1.01.0011, 1.01.0009, 1.01.1008, 1.01.0005.

5.In order to downgrade the version "R01.01.0029" we can do it just version, by version, which means that we need to downgrade to version "R01.01.0024", then to version "R01.01.0022", then to version "R01.01.0021" and finally to the needed one "R01.01.0020".

6.Download version "R01.01.0024" and decompress the downloaded file to a Thumb-drive on FAT32.

7.In order for the downgrade to take place we need to go ahead and use the BIOS Recovery method available in the "Technical Product Specification" (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/server-boards/Intel_Server_Board_S2600WT_TPS.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/server-boards/Intel_Server_Board_S2600WT_TPS.pdf).

8.Look for "11. Reset and Recovery Jumpers". Place the jumpers in pins 2 – 3.

9.Switch to "11.6 BIOS Recovery Jumper" and follow the instructions on how to load the firmware from the EFI Shell as displayed, which are:

- Turn off the system.

- For safety, remove the AC power cords

- Remove the system top cover

- Move the "BIOS Recovery" jumper from pins 1 - 2 (default) to pins 2 - 3 (BIOSRecovery position)

- Re-install the system top cover and re-attach the AC power cords

- Insert the thumb drive with the firmware version that needs to be loaded

- Power on the system

- The system will automatically boot to the EFI shell. Update the BIOS using the standard BIOS update instructions provided with the system update package

- After the BIOS update has successfully completed, power off the system. For safety, remove the AC power cords from the system

- Remove the system top cover

- Move the BIOS Recovery jumper back to pins 1-2 (default)

- Re-install the system top cover and re-attach the AC power cords

- Power on the system and access the BIOS Setup utility.

- Configure desired BIOS settings

- Hit the key to save and exit the utility.

1.Please make sure that the down grade has taken place by entering the BIOS and verifying the BIOS version loaded matches the one that was saved into the Thumb-drive.

2.Please repeat the same procedure for the next versions "R01.01.0022", "R01.01.0021" and finally "R01.01.0020".

Hope this helps

Hello Dmitri,

Yes if you look by the chassis model R1208WFTYS, you are right you will only find BIOS 00.001.0014. But if you look by the board model S2600WT.

This is the link to find R01.01.0027 and also older versions:

If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

Hello dimdim,

I think there is a little confusion about the board present on your system. The R1208WFTYS server comes with a S2600WF board, not a S2600WT. The WF (Wolf Pass) one is the most recent model released by Intel and the latest BIOS available is v00.01.0014 as you previously stated. The earlier BIOS version is 00.01.0013 which contains BMC firmware v1.43. You can download it from this URL: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27642/Intel-Server-Board-S2600WF-Family-BIOS-and-Firmware-Update-for-Intel-One-Boot-Flash-Update-Intel-OFU-Utility-and-WinPE https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27642/Intel-Server-Board-S2600WF-Family-BIOS-and-Firmware-Update-for-Intel-One-Boot-Flash-Update-Intel-OFU-Utility-and-WinPE-

So, could you confirm what board model you have, is it a S2600WF or S2600WT?

I downgrade only BMC from 1.60 to 1.43 by RMM4 webpanel. BIOS, ME, SDR from update package 1.60 (for example, BIOS 01.0014), because they downgrade complex, need physical access to server, many reboots and so on. During few days no any problems.

Does same downgrade valid?

Hello dimdim,

I am glad to hear that your issue seems to be resolved. I think the complete downgrade is not necessary as long as the issue doesn't reoccur.

I will mark this thread as resolved for now. If you need further assistance please go ahead and create a new topic.
