S3000AHLX D40858-204 and Core2Quad processor

I have S3000AHLX D40858-204 motherboad and Core2Quad processor on it.

It's works fine with BIOS version R31.

Why this board with newer BIOS won't support quad processors?

And may i flash BIOS from R54 to R34?

To program BIOS from R54 to R34 i remove J1H3 jumper and boot system with bootable USB Flash disk (with dos 6.22) and successfully program the BIOS.
