S5000PSL (S5000SL) / Fan´s running at 100% / Status LED Amber / Sys-Fan LED Amber

Hello,

I have the current problem:

I have an INTEL S5000PSL installed with 16GB RAM (4x4) and two Xeon 51xx. The MoBo is installed in an Intel Chassis SC5400 (I don´t know the exactly model and don´t know how to identify)

The Problem is that all Fans running at 100% all the time after the newest BIOS UPDATE (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19672/Firmware-Update-Package-for-DOS?product=50529 Download Firmware Update Package for DOS ). The settings in Bios were loaded to optimzied settings (F9) and the Fanspeed to Acoustic, 0-300.

I had also resetted the CMOS and the BMC jumper but no solution....

I had recognized that the SYSTEM_STATUS_LED is currently blinking orange/amber all the time also when WIN SERVER 2012 R2 is running.

The SYS_FAN_LED (left back near by RAM) is also lightning in amber but I have installed an 4-PIN PWM Fan....

I don´t know what I can do else. Do you have any information how I can get the fan´s silent/running in Idle mode?

Thanks in advance

Hello Zebaz,

Thanks for joining the community.

First of all let me tell you that this product is discontinued since 2010. For that reason we will try to provide you with the best possible support given the limitations.

You could try the following:

* Get the system even log to determine what kind of fan error message it shows

* Since you have installed the most recent FW, you could try to downgrade 1 step down back to version 99: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18969/Firmware-Update-Package-for-DOS https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18969/Firmware-Update-Package-for-DOS and confirm if issue disappears

For general fan issues you can follow this guide:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005890/server-products.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005890/server-products.html

Hope this helps. If you have further questions just let us know.

Hello Jose,

thank you for your reply.

Tried to install Selview on Windows. There is a problem by installing the driver with the following answer:

SetupDiCreateDeviceInfo failed

Command failed

Installing IMB driver...

"MSIPMI Driver detected. Skipping IMBDRV installation"

I did it as on this explanation: https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/support/articles/000007037/server-products.html Extrahieren und Lesen des System Ereignisprotokolls (SEL) für...

After starting the selview.exe the window keeps blank...

How can I am get selview running? Latest version of JRE (8;71) is installed.

Best Regards

Zebaz

Hello Zebaz,

Looks like you are trying to run the Selviewer on Windows. I would suggest you to try either the EFI version or the offline-DOS option since it won't depend on Windows drivers and/or installations.

Hello Zebaz,

Hope you are doing fine.

Thanks for the information file, unfortunately, this file does not contain enough information to determinate the issue.

Please follow the steps in this link to get the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27329/System-Information-Retrieval-Utility-SysInfo-for-Intel-Server-Boards-and-Systems-based-on-Intel-62X-Chipset?v=t System Information Retrieval Utility (SysInfo) for Intel® Server Boards.

You can pull the logs out using EFI in case that you have issues with the OS.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best Regards.

Hello Zebaz,

Thanks for your response.

I checked the files you sent the information requested, but there are empty, therefore, I was not able to analyze the data. It seems like the OS is not reading from the BMC.

We will need you to please check the steps you followed in order to get the logs, to see what was missing and also check the server configuration.

This server board has no driver compatibility with the OS you are using and that could be an issue, you can try to use the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18895/System-Information-Retrieval-Utility-for-Windows-?product=50529 SysInfo Utility latest version 2010 compatible for that server board and check if it fills the logs.

Try to update the latest firmware using EFI and not the OS.

Try to pull out the logs using EFI and not the OS.

Check every cable connection.

If the fans have LED lights please check the color (amber not function or bad) and check that they are set correctly and spinning,

If those steps do not work it could be an electronic issue with the board itself, remember that we have limitations with this board as this has been discontinued since 2010.

Please try to perform those steps and let us know how it goes.

Best Regards.

Hello Charlie,

sorry for my late reply.

I noticed that the processors are 32°C (as of CORE Software). The coolers are running really hot and i am guessing that´s the problem why the fan´s are running at 100%.

I am trying to organize better coolers to solve this as all other possibilities didn´t worked in the past..

Thank you very much for your efforts anyway! Really appreciated

Best Regards

Sebastian

Hello Zebaz,

Do not worry.

Yes, check the heatsink positions and the thermic grease between them and let us know if it solves the issue.
