SASUC8I and "RAID Web Console 2": cannot sent a test email

I have a SASUC8I running happily in RAID1 with a hot standby. I can log into the "RAID Web Console 2" software and would like to set it up to send out email alerts.

After setting up the SMTP server details, when I try the "Test" button, I just get the following message:

Test Email Failed

=============

The test email could not be sent.

Check the mail server settings and try again.

The SMTP server is not local - it is located at the ISP. It does not require authentication nor does it require an SSL connection. It works nicely with Thunderbird like this from the same machine. I have tried both the domain of the SMTP server and the IP address (I realise the IP address is not ideal, as it could change any time).

Should this work, or does the SMTP server need to be on the local network? Should I set up a local SMTP redirector of some sort to pass mail to 127.0.0.1 to the ISP's SMTP server? Is there something obvious that I may be overlooking?

I have tried this at two different locations with two different ISPs, both of which work with Thunderbird without any special settings.

Jason,

Here a couple links from the Intel support site about email alerting setup.

Yes, that first list is the instructions for setting it up, which I have done. It does not touch on the issue I am having though. The second link describes what to do if you cannot get into the configuration screen, but I have no problems getting into the configuration screen.

Tenia el mismo problema y funciono poniendo un usuario y contraseña valido para mi servidor de correo.

Sin usuario y contraseña no funciono

Had the same problem and it worked by putting a valid username and password for my mail server.

No username and password did not work

Thank you! I did not consider that, and will give it a try at the next opportunity.

It kind of makes sense if it is assumed the server will be in a large business environent. Enforcing this rule ensures there is not an open email relay for others to use. In a small business office it is often a different case, with a broadband email gateway authenticated only by virtue of being connected to it via broadband,

Hi,

I have the same problem. No matter what I put in the configuration boxes (IP address or hostname, with authentication or not) it seems that the test e-mail is never sent - mail server's logs don't show any trace of it. Do the notifications work after all?

Thanks,
