Server Case P4304XXMUXX replacements

Hi, I've got two such servers with S2600 motherboards - one with dual scalable CPU and one with a single scalable CPU (all gold) - so reasonably performant. Alas the newest of the two (3 years old), the PSU has failed and a hot-plug fan has failed (just before the PSU).

Intel has dropped these, but alas I'm not really willing to throw away $40k worth of hardware so I'm asking what replacement for the above Server case+PSU intel (or others) suggests?

The single CPU hardware is currently out of action - which is problematic - so I'm trying to find what I can replace the old with (quickly)

S2600STB and S2600STBR - though they are effectively the same - just the R accepts the fixed R CPUs - except it didn't accept my 6258R CPU until I first upgraded the new MB ...

Hello Canno,

Please share the system debug to analyze the issue. Please refer to the below link to obtain the debug log.

I've told you what the issues are - one fan failed (orange light) and the PSU failed.

They both report in the MB web event log.

They need to be replaced but I can't get them.

So I need a new case for the motherboard.

I've dealt with a fan failure before on this same system and even back then couldn't get a new fan

I discussed it here before how I hacked a workaround.

But a PSU reporting as failed (and I also could smell bad smoke)

means the PSU needs replacing to work again.

Alas that's not possible, thus the reason for the title

"Server Case P4304XXMUXX replacements"

After getting a hold of a Fractal case which has the right spots to screw the motherboard into,

and using a standard PSU with the case, alas it still isn't happy.

As far as I understand, the S2600STBR should be able to run on a standard ATX PSU (750W in this case)

I have only connected the front header for Power,Led,Reset and the power button works to get it to attempt starting.

PSU->24connector and 1st CPU 8connnector (and disks)

However, the BMC web event log says the following:

The fan status of course complains since they are only 3 pin fans and only 3 connected, but that isn't reported in the event log so I assume it should also be OK to boot.

Well I guess what this really boils down to is: should the S2600STBR with a single 6258R CPU and 256GB RAM,

be able to run off a standard 750W ATX PSU - using the CPU 8 pin connector and the 24 pin power connector.

Clearly the 750W is more than enough, but alas no idea if you need some other intel custom connection to make it work?

Hello Canno,

Greetings for the day!

The S2600STBR, with a single 6258R CPU and 256GB of RAM, is able to run off a standard 750W ATX PSU. Using the CPU 8-pin connector and the 24-pin power connector is more than enough.

Also, as per the event entries that you shared, we see there is a power supply input lost (asserted on PS1). In that case, please confirm if the server is powered on. Hence, we don’t see any issues with the motherboard.

As you mentioned earlier, one fan failed (orange light) and the PSU failed, so you can replace it if it is under warranty.

Regards,

Dineshbabu.

No idea about warranty, I built the system myself.

I finally worked out what the Power error actually meant - the board wont boot unless BOTH 8-pin CPU power sockets are connected.

While I only have one CPU in this board, alas it needs both power sockets before it will boot.

So thus yes it does work with a 'standard' ATX PSU, but you need all 3 connections.

In the interim I built another system to handle the data access until I resolved this today, and have now sorted it out and switched the data disks and VMs back to the fixed system.

Thus the dead intel case will now be spare fans for the other intel dual CPU system I have.

There is only one intel fan for the intel case in the topic

As I mentioned above already, however, I've replaced the intel case, since the fan failed and the PSU failed - as I explained in the first post.

I replaced the case since it is dropped from support and hard/impossible to get the replacement parts to fix it.

I've moved the motherboard to a different case (Fractal)

It worked for over a week with a 1200W Corsair PSU, but alas the motherboard gave an error again and now wont boot.

No doubt I'll solve whatever it is this time, or get a new motherboard that has a case that is current and you can buy parts for, to avoid future issues.

Clearly I'm not wanting to throw away the 6258R CPU and 256GB RAM

So this cycles back to the topic I started with.

Is there no intel replacement for the case?

EVERY server case I see on the intel web site says it is discontinued.

Hello Canno,

Since you confirmed the issue with the motherboard, we are happy to assist you in resolving it.

Please confirm the motherboard model.

Also, please confirm if there are any beeps and if the amber LED is blinking on the motherboard.

Lastly, confirm if the system is completing POST.

This information will help us assist you further.
