Server configuration on the R2208WFTZSR platform

Hello,

I select the server configuration on the R2208WFTZSR platform + an additional Drive Bay 8x2.5" module and I'm afraid not to take into account all the subtleties.

The processor is planned Intel Xeon Gold 6246R - 2 pcs.

Memory plan Samsung M393A1K43DB1-CVF 8GB - 12 pcs.

I plan to connect up to 8 SAS/SATA disks and up to 8 NVMe disks.
At the beginning will be connected:
2 SSD Sata S4610 960 Gb
2 SSD NVMe P4610 1,6 Tb
2 HDD SAS 2 Tb each

I plan to connect the first Drive Bay 8x2.5" module with an AXXCBL875HDHD cable. Only SAS/Sata drives will be used in this module.

I plan to connect the second Drive Bay 8x2.5" module like this:
- 4 disks using 4 pieces of AXXCBL700CVCR directly to the Oculink ports on the motherboard;
- 4 disks using SSD Retimer AIC 4P (Oculink) AXXP3RTX16040, expansion cards A2UL16RISER2 (as I understood included in the platform 2 pcs.) and cable Oculink 2U Retimer A2U4PRTCXCXK

Did I understand correctly the possibilities of this platform for disk connections?

For NVMe disks I will use the Vroc key

For Sas\sata, use the built-in Raid controller or buy RMSP3CD080F with a power battery?

From the configuration attached I don't see the connections to any of the hot swappable backplanes (HSBP) . You have to take into consideration the connections between the board ports (either oculinks, SAS/SATA) an the backplanes, unless you plan to connect the SSD directly to the cables (which is not recommended in this chassis configuration)

I'm a little confused.

According to the instructions on page 65, it is indicated that 1 SAS/NVMe combo backplane - IPC F2U8X25S3PHS is included in the R2208WFTZSR chassis.

In addition to the already installed 2.5" hot-swat drive bays, I want to install 1 more basket for 8 disks (In total there will be 2 baskets for 16 disks)

This, as I understand it, is allowed by the configuration using 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6246R.

In the first basket, only Sata S4610 SSDs were planned.
The basket, as I understood it, includes (1) 8x2.5 SAS/NVMe Combo Backplane, and I planned to connect it to the motherboard using an AXXCBL875HDHD cable

In the second basket, it was planned to use only NVMe disks.

I planned to connect the first 4 disks (0-3) with AXXCBL700CVCR cables from the backplane basket to the Oculink ports of the motherboard.

I planned to connect the second four disks (4-7) using SSD Retimer AIC 4P (Oculink) AXXP3RTX16040, expansion cards A2UL16RISER2 and cable Oculink 2U Retimer A2U4PRTCXCXK

Or did I misunderstand everything and an additional backplane or more cables are required to connect 2.5" hot-swat drive bays?

I will be very grateful for the help and advice on the configuration of the correct connection of two 2.5" hot-swat drive bays

The configuration you are planning seems plausible. Just a quick question, are you planning this configuration or do you already own the system?

Hello Jose,

At the moment I am planning this configuration for purchase.

I tried the configuration tool.

I was confused by your previous answer about connecting disks to the motherboard and the lack of cables for connecting backplanes (HSBP).

Cables for connection in the configuration I seem to have taken into account both for SAS \ Sata disks and for NVMe.

Backplane as I understand it are part of the baskets (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/server-boards/S2600WF_Config_Guide_Production.pdf#page=110 ) and it is from them that I connect cables to the motherboard or Raid controller.

You are correct. The backplane is part of the HDD enclosure. The connections are made from the back of the HSBP to the ports on the board/RAID controller/etc.
