Ubuntu 18.04.2 does not see onboard NIC on server board S2600STB

I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04.2 server but could not because the onboard NIC on my S2600STB was not detected. I then booted from a live USB to investigate. The Network Manager list four possible wired connections (2 onboard plus the two unused SFP+) but they are grayed out. Also, the LAN LED is not lit. The onboard NIC is enabled in the BIOS.

One other strange detail. The Ubuntu Network Manager lists the wired connections as X722. Is this normal? I do not have the X722 card.

Edit: Forgot to mention that BIOS is up to date.

Edit2: Should I have posted this in the Ethernet thread?

FYI. Ubuntu 19.04 includes compatible i40e drivers. Works out of the box (once I realized the LAN drop I was using was broken 😕 ). Thanks.

Hello Brendan, Please take in consideration that Ubuntu 18.04.2 has not been validated for the S2600STB, you can confirm this information here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000024349/server-products/server-boards.html We currently do not have network drivers available for Ubuntu 18.04.2 server What we recommend is to try to load the network driver and check if the problem continues. You can check the Ubuntu community for more information. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance. Best regards, Sergio S. The LAN driver tarball for this motherboard has four directories:

  1. apps
  2. PRO40G
  3. PRO1000
  4. PROXGB

Which of these is the appropriate driver for the onboard NIC? PROXGB?

Thanks!

Hello Brendan, The folder PROXGB have the drivers for the Intel(R) Ethernet Controller X552 , your server board comes with a Intel® Ethernet Connection 722 controller, additionally these drivers are meant to work on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4*, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8*, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3*, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2* and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4* and we can not guarantee that they will work.
