Hello everyone!

Could you tell me what raid controller models will be able to replace my RS2BL080 as hot spare/cold spare reserve (it must pick up existing array ) , if it will die?

At the moment i can't find any RS2BL080 nowhere on sale.

There is must be some unified data format, to not attach to a particular raid controller model, don't it?

I understand that decision is simple and effective, but is it really the only? Let's suppose that i bought it now, and after 2 years have passed, my first controller die. I'll change it to my second controller, and he will die too.

At the current moment it is hard to find it in store, but after two years, it may be impossible? What will we do in that case?

(Please, don't tell me buy three one )

Hello gekm,

Regarding your question, "What if http://ark.intel.com/products/42874/Intel-RAID-Controller-RS2BL080 RS2BL080 isn't available for purchase? ". I am afraid this model was last order on April of this year. You could try local https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/partner/where-to-buy/overview.html authorize resellers.

Possible compatible cards are:

You will be able to click on the link on each model and compare them

If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

Thank for your answer.

Is it correct i understood, if my RS2BL080 will die, i'll be able just to replace it into RS3DC080 or RS3WC080 to make my array alive?

Hello gekm,

It should just work by replacing the card. But as RAID configuration is so delicate on how the information is read and writing. At the moment of failure could corrupt the RAID. I recommend keeping a backup just in case.
