Hi guys. Building a server used for SOHO back office and high end test/devel

I want the board to support ESXi 6.5 fully NICS, I/O passthruough. Furthermore it should:

1) have IPMI/iKVM

2) Support at least 64 GB DDR4, preferable 128 GB

3) low power usage

Any suggestions?

Regards, Lars.

Hello intbonne,

Regarding your question, "on a compatible server/workstation board for ESXi 6.5, also to be able to handle - 1) have IPMI7iKVM - 2) Support at least 64 GB DDR4, preferable 128 GB - 3) low power usage ".

Normally this question will be best handle calling or sales department or local Authorized Resellers. I am going to do my best to get you the closest best answers.

For Sales department, please follow this link:

https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/forms/support/presales-form.html https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/forms/support/presales-form.html

For Authorized Resellers:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/partner/where-to-buy/overview.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/partner/where-to-buy/overview.html

For IPMI7iKVM, the best solution will be to contact the manufacture for compatibility list of the Hardware manufacturer, this because for what I was able to read is only compatible with Windows, Linux and Java Runtime Environment.

For a more detailed on compatibility for ESXi 6.5 please take a look at this document from ESXi - https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/pdf/vi_systems_guide.pdf https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/pdf/vi_systems_guide.pdf

Also, from Intel - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005893/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005893/network-and-i-o/ethernet-products.html

Support for at least 64 GB RAM or higher.

Best compatible board are the S2600WT** and S2600ST*

I hope this information helps you.

If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

Thank you for your suggested mobo. But it does not seem to be a std. ATX mobo?

One of the only MB Intel does thats a server and ATX is the R1000SPO series (S1200SPO), also 90% sure this is ESXi 6.5 compliant.

Hi there Lars,

It is correct. The closes match would be the Intel Server Board S1200SPLR. This board is currently active and it is offered in the uATX.

You can find more details about this board at the following website.

https://ark.intel.com/products/97950/Intel-Server-Board-S1200SPLR https://ark.intel.com/products/97950/Intel-Server-Board-S1200SPLR

Let me share the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000017644/server-products.html Technical Product Specifications for this board for you to have more information about this model.

You could also contact one of our Intel(R) resellers as they might have worked on a similar configuration in the past.

Feel free to reach out again if you have additional questions about the model we recommended.

Best regards,
