I have got S1200SPS motherboard and Noctua NF-A15 PWM Fan. When I was checking BMC I discovered that RPM sensor is not reading speed of that fan but the fan was working. I hot swapped the fan to another connector - SYSFAN2 and it stopped spinning. When I connected fan back to CPUFAN it still was not spinning. I reset SDR multiple times with different options but fan still doesn't work. I bought new one, exactly the same and the new one behaves as the old one. I found that both fans do work when I connect them using only 3 pins instead of 4.
Fans are working fine when they are connected to SYSFAN4 connector, but don't work when connected to CPUFAN, SYSFAN2, SYSFAN3.
Even when fans are connected to SYSFAN4, speed sensor doesn't detect their speed. Different fan connected to SYSFAN1 using 3pin connector is measured by BMC just fine.
Does it mean I might have damaged my motherboard ? Noctua fans are not fully compatible with this motherboard ? How can I fix it ?

Hello MCyra,
Please provide us more additional information in order to better assist you:
Can you please provide us the firmware version of your system?
Have you tried a different brand of fans?
Is this a brand new installation?

Firmware is the latest one. I performed upgrade before this incident.
This fan was working so I assume brand is not the case, but I will do a test with different fans and come back with the results.
No it is not a brand new installation.
Best regards
Mariusz

If your BIOS has been misconfigured or is outdated, you might have problems with your fan. If your CPU fan does not spin, the issue could be anywhere from the fan, the motherboard, to the power supply unit. The fan can get clogged with dust and lint hence preventing it from spinning.
