I have a PC with s2600cw and all of a sudden it is booting very slow. Takes 10 minutes to POST.

Board is brand new and has latest BIOS update.

Can someone help with this?

Thanks.

Hello MSidd2,

Thank you for posting your question on this Intel® Community.

To better assist you, we would like to have additional information about this behavior.

We understand that this is a brand-new system, but did it work before?

Does the server take 10 minutes to perform POST and enter BIOS setup or to boot to the operating system?

If possible, please provide a brief description of the troubleshooting you have performed.

Is this a Data Center Block Integrated System?

Please run the System Information Retrieval Utility (SysInfo) and attach the logs to this thread.

Installation on UEFI

1. Copy the uncompressed .zip file into a local directory (for example, fs0:\sysinfo).

2. Go to the UEFI folder.

3. Run sysinfo.efi.

Sysinfo logs system information in two log files in the LogFiles folder under the current directory

(sysinfo_log.txt, PCI_log.txt): sysinfo.efi

Hi Wanner G,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it is an embedded system, highly customized with Windows 10 LTSC, we whitelist all the necessary exe and unable to install any binary programs. I can install the utility you recommended, if it is a must! I can also send you Sysinfo log file from our environment. If you like.

One thing I noticed that when it finally boots up to our software environment, Green HD activity is continuously blink. I am using SSD so no defrag needed, is not running. I don't see any process running in task manager that writes to HD.

Can you recommend something else to try?

Thanks.

Hello MSidd2,

Thank you for your response.

Based on the information provided, this behavior is most likely OS related. Windows* 10 LTSC is unsupported by this Intel® Server Board.

Please refer to the Operating System Compatibility for the Intel® Server Board S2600CW Family

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006988/server-products/server-boards.html

  • Are other systems with Intel® Server Board S2600CW and a similar configuration experiencing slow boot times?
  • Did the system work as expected before?
  • Did the issue start after performing a specific task or running software?

If possible, please provide us with the logs generated by the Sysinfo. This will be useful to obtain additional details about your configuration, and provide further recommendations.

We have multiple system configured and working like this. This particular system worked fine on our test bench. All our systems are configured same way, at least intended to.

Please review the attached sys info and let me know if you have any recommendation.

Thanks.

Hello MSidd2,

Thank you for your response.

According to the report attached, the system is running SMBIOS BIOS Version SE5C610.86B.01.01.0028.121720182203. Does this behavior happen if you run the latest system BIOS and firmware:

Intel® Server Board S2600CW Firmware Update Package for EFI Version: 01.01.1029

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29883/Intel-Server-Board-S2600CW-Firmware-Update-Package-for-EFI

Please let us know if the system is out of production and available for troubleshooting.

You can also install this package from the OS using the Intel® One Boot Flash Update (Intel® OFU) Utility

In addition, are the other systems working as expected Intel® Server Board S2600CW2R as well?

Thanks for following up. I was able to fix it by shorting the the J1F6 jumper on the mother board. We use Samsung EV860 SDD. We have not had any issues with this motherboard in the past. Last few systems are acting up. I have another identical system that is working fine, but periodically its fan runs really fast, even when the system is idle. Any recommendations?

Thanks again for the help!

Hello MSidd2,

Thank you for letting us know that the behavior was fixed by shorting the the J1F6 jumper on the motherboard.

If the System Fan runs too fast or is noisy, we recommend that you review the following steps:

Check whether all the fan connectors are properly inserted or try to remove and reinsert the connectors.

Update FRUSDR (Field Replaceable Unit and Sensor Data Record) to the latest and appropriate version.

To update the FRUSDR, please follow these steps:

1. Login to F2 (BIOS) screen and select ‘Internal EFI shell’ in the Boot Manager tab. A shell prompt appears on screen.

2. Run “map –r” to display all the drives available under the shell.

3. Change to the current directory containing the FRUSDR package.

4. Run the nsh script in the FRUSDR folder.

It is worth mentioning that running the latest BIOS is desired since it contains fixes and improvements to ensure system functionality. Please let us know if this system is running the latest updates.
