So after a bit of wrestling I got the camera working and the examples functioning. I then went to install Unity and Virtual Studio on this new machine (i5-4670K proc). Virtual studio had some form of freak-out and so that was cancelled and then re-installed. After a reboot, the camera was no longer working in the SDK examples, nor other apps. DCM installs reported:
1.2 - can't find a camera
1.4 - -4 error
At this point windows was rolled back to a restore point from just before inital install of the DCM (before Unity and Virtual Studio).
All USB ports (bar two, which are not in use) are USB 3. Many have been tried (about 5).
After this, camera is still not recognised properly, and altering the SDK options results in a report that the DCM is not installed.
1. Camera is a peripheral ordered from Intel (arrived this morning)
2. Imaging Devices: Depth, RGB
3. Intel (R) RealSense(TM) 3D Camera (Front F200) Device
4. -4
Many thanks in advance for any assistance

Please check the USB 3.0 cable has good connection to both camera and computer. One developer has found the connection issue and camera works after he fixed it.

The cable is completely attached to the camera and cannot be moved, and in terms of attaching to the computer, as I say it has been tried in about 5 different ports (very gently). There is no damage to the cable whatsoever. I have been very gentle with it, and as I said, the camera was working until a reboot, when it was suddenly not.
