I checked the RealSense SDK Information from Sample Browser. My version is
Intel (R) RealSense (tm) SDK 3.1.0.25181
Intel (R) RealSense (TM) SDK Runtime 3.1.0.25181
....
Is this R1?

The currently posted (since last November) release is Gold R1 (release 1).

I suggest to Intel to name their SDK in a more intuitive way, currently you can call this:
- 2014 with/without Gold (since the download page doesn't mention R1, 1.0, or 3.1.0.25181 in anyway)
- 1.0 (from R1)
- 3.1 or 3.1.0.25181 (the "actual" SDK version)
While 2014 and 3.1 isn't confusing. R1/1.0 and 3.1 is very confusing. In the future, which one is newer: R5 or v4.0 ? You can't be sure, since Intel may name R5 = v3.6 or that R5 = v4.1.
And why append Gold to it? Is there Silver, Bronze? Suppose there are versions 2014 Gold and 2014 Platinum and 2014 Silver, which one is newer and should be used? The difference isn't as intuitive than if you called them Basic/Advanced/Ultimate editions. If the "Gold" isn't meaningful then get rid of it altogether.

There is only one currently available version since November 2014, and that's the one you need.
And the gold thingy, it is just a terminology to say that the software is ready to be distributed to the customers. There isn't a silver, or bronze, or basic/advance/ultimate editions, just gold as opposed to, say, beta.
