Controlling the front panel LED on the 8i3, 8i5 and 8i7 NUCs

I like to be able to control the front panel LED, specifically the Ring LED, from an application running under Ubuntu 18.04. I've been looking for anything that would explain how to do this but have fund nothing. I've seen some of this for older NUCs and earlier version of Ubuntu but the platforms are different.

Anyone have information on this?
