I have a I7-920 system on an Intel board - the system has 4 drives - The SSD which I boot off of, 2 hard drives that are in a Raid configuration, and another hard drive to hold temporary large files. When I boot the firmware update, get an error message that the Intel SSD is not attached or disabled. Any ideas?

Try setting your SATA ports to IDE mode for the flash only. Reset them before booting back into the OS.
