Hello croisebeck,

Thanks for posting in our communities. We understand that your laptop is reporting high temperatures after updating your SSD firmware. We need to check your Intel® SSD 540s S.M.A.R.T. details. If you have access to a Windows* operating system on this laptop, please provide us with the SMART report exported from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27656/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox. If you can only access Linux*, you may use https://www.smartmontools.org/ Smartmontools* smartctl command.Best regards,Eugenio F.

Hello croisebeck,

Thanks for your reply. The SMART details show the drive is operating within safe temperature ranges. The https://ark.intel.com/products/94203/Intel-SSD-540s-Series-240GB-2_5in-SATA-6Gbs-16nm-TLC operational temperature for this SSD is 0°C to 70°C, according to your SSD SMART report value 0190 (Airflow_Temperature), the temperature at the moment the output was generated was 26°C, while the highest registered temperature is 51°C.There are no reports or expected issues with firmware 042C and system/SSD temperature. The behavior seems to be caused by something else, here's an article from Dell* with some recommendations that might be useful for you:- http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln149611/dell-portable-system-heat-issue-or-the-system... Dell portable system heat issue or the system is overheatingIf the issue persists, we commend to http://www.dell.com/support/contents/br/pt/brbsdt1/category/contact-information?c=br&l=pt&~ck=mn contact your laptop manufacturer for further assistance. Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you.NOTE: Links to third party sites are being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.Best regards,Eugenio F.

After updating and reboot, I believe the filesystem was working or organizing something, which may have required a lot of processing load like the trim, if this is normal I think there should be a warning because it really got hot, I turned it off and after cooling completely and turning it warmed up to about 40c and started to decrease until it normalized and reached ambient temperature which is how it typically works (in my case).

Thanks for clarifying my doubts and if it happens with someone, it's the tip.

sorry for my English.
