How can I updated ssd firmware via serial console?

Jump to solution

I have an Intel 525 Series mSata 60GB SSD that I recently purchased used. It is installed in a new PC Engines APU2C4 box that only has a serial console connection to a terminal window; no GUI. There is no operation system installed yet; it will be pfSense. I would like to be able to check what firmware is currently on the SSD, and update it if necessary. However, the Firmware Updater Tool is GUI based and doesn't appear to work via the serial console. Is there another option for updating my SSD firmware via a serial console command line? This is the only hardware that I have with an mSata slot, so I don't have an option to move it elsewhere to do the update.

Ok, I want to make sure that I clearly understand your statement that there are no firmware updates available. Is this to mean that since the 525 Series SSD was put into production, there has never been a firmware update for it? I see in the documentation that this SSD was initially released in December 2012, with an engineering revision in March 2013. The official launch date is Q1 2013, and the product page does not state that it is end-of-life'd yet http://ark.intel.com/products/series/71178/Intel-SSD-525-Series Intel® SSD 525 Series Product Specifications. So I just want to make sure that I understand that there has never been a firmware update for the SSD 525 Series product line, and I am specifically interested in the 60GB version. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

That is correct, there is only one firmware version for this SSD that is LLLi. We only release new firmware version if it is required to address a bug or issue.

Also, you can check that on the https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26491/eng/Intel_SSD_Firmware_Update_Tool_2_2_2_Release_Notes_018.pd... Firmware Update Tool Release notes there is no firmware updates information associated with your Intel® SSD 525 Series.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was also able to confirm that the product label on my SSD has printed on it that the firmware is LLLi. So no need for me to try to figure out how to update it. Thanks.
