Intel 520-120g sometimes SATA1, sometimes SATA2 on ICH9R

Hey Guys,

Just purchased an Intel 520 120gig SSD

I have a Gigabyte EP35-DS3P motherboard (P35 + ICH9R)

I am running the SSD on port 1 of the ICH9R in AHCI mode with a fresh windows 7 Ultimate install with latest chipset and Rapid Storage drivers.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology app mostly shows the drive @ SATA 1.5Gb/s, whilst on occasional boots it shows as SATA 3Gb/s

I have tried port 0 and port 1 of the ICH9R

I have tried 2 different SATA cables (am currently using cable supplied with drive).

Needless to say i'm not getting the performance i'd hoped for.

I realise my board does not support SATA 3 (6Gb/s) but at least if i can get the interface to consistent run SATA 2 i'd be happy.

Anyone have any ideas?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

v81

Several things you should try. Are you using the Intel SSD Toolbox? If not, download and install it:

Be sure to perform the system tuning option, which could fix and power setting issues.

Do you know what Windows Power Option you are using? Go into Power Options from Control Panel, and choose High Performance plan. Or if you rather used Balanced, click Change Plan Options, and then Advanced Options, and under Hard Disk set Turn Off Hard Disk to Never.

See how that goes, and we can take it from there if necessary.
