Intel HM170 PCIe support

Dear all,

I would like to buy new SSD for my Lenovo Ideapad 700. There is M.2 slot in my Intel HM170 (Skylake PCH-H), so I decided to by SSD with NMVE.

But I would like to know, if PCI Express 4.0 x4 is supported, or only PCI Express 3.0?

Thank you in advance.

Only PCIe 3.0 is supported. This does not mean that a drive that supports PCIe 4.0 cannot be used; it just means it won't be able to transfer data as quickly as it would otherwise. But -- and this is a good 'but' -- some PCIe 4.0 drives, because designed for PCIe 4.0, will outperform their PCIe 3.0 counterparts. Whether this is enough of an increase in performance to account for the difference in price is debatable, but this still represents a level of future-proofing.
Hope this helps.
