Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?

I just bought an Intel SSD 530 240GB to replace my Intel SSD510 for my HP Elitebook 8460p.

When i cold-start my computer everything is fine, but when I restart my computer from within a freshly installed windows-7, the drive is not found.

If i turn off the computer and start it again, the drive is found and boots up again as usual. So the drive fails after reset.

I have upgraded the firmware of the SSD to the latest version via the SSD toolbox but still no luck. also updated laptop bios to latest version.

I had no problems in the past with the Intel SSD 510 edition.

Any ideas on what to do?

Clarification:

So, when I insert my Intel 510 SSD and start windows and restart windows it works without problem. But with the Intel 530 it wails when I do restart, the BIOS does not find it after a normal reset. So that must conclude that the Intel SSD 530 has some bug? or is sensitive to some timing issue?

Should I return it? or just assume its incompatible with my laptop?

New firmware does not resolve this issue for me, running an ASUS z78-pro with the latest BIOS. The disk is only randomly detected after hard reset, never after a reset.

For me to have the Intel 530 240 GB SSD recognized by BIOS and Windows is to turn off my Dell monitor from the main power supply every time I shut down my PC.

This is not the case for the Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD (was the primary disk in my PC), thus I feel that the Intel 530 might have some problem with the on-board chips.

Hope Intel will be able to solve this soon.

Hi All,

The new firmware for the Intel® SSD 530 Series is now available.

Windows* users can download version 3.2.0 of the Intel® Solid-State Drive Toolbox at:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18455 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18455

(Firmware updates are part of the Toolbox download).

After installing the new version of the Toolbox, simply click the Firmware Update button to start the update process.

Non-Windows users can download version 2.0.9 of the Intel® Solid-State Drive SATA Firmware Update Tool and User Guide at:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18363 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=18363

Instructions for using the Firmware Update tool are in the User Guide.

We are confident that the new firmware will fix the issue of drives not being seen on restart. We

would appreciate it if you would confirm that your restart issue is fixed by posting a comment to this thread.

Thanks for your patience while we completed development and testing of this firmware update.

I am pleased to report that my 180 GB 530 Series SSD in my Asus G73jh Notebook computer is restarting correctly with no problems to report, using the new BIOS! Thanks ken-Intel for ALL of your HELP!

I'm gladly reporting that reboot on my Macbook Pro 7,1 with 120GB Intel 530 SSD started to work properly after upgrading firmware. Thanks guys for keeping your promise and that I was not forced to return new drive.
