Optane H10 labeled "32GB Optane/512GB NAND" shows up in device manager (Win 10) as "Intel Optane+477GBSSD" so it's more like "512GB -32GB" than 32GB + 512GB as advertised. WHY? Why say "both" when you take 32GB AWAY?

No, it is not 512GB - 32GB. You don't 'take' anything away.

The 477GB is the actual number of gigabytes that exist in the 512GB drive area. Remember that, for drive size statements, 1MB = 1,000,000 bytes, not the 1,048,576 actual bytes that exist in a true megabyte. This (I have always thought horrible and misleading) numbering scheme, meant to make drives look bigger than they are, was started many years ago by Seagate and WD, so don't blame Intel.

512 true gigabytes = 549,755,813,888 bytes.

512 false gigabytes = 512,000,000,000 bytes = 476.837 true gigabytes.

Do not worry about those numbers or geometry. All is ok.

By the way, my setup says the same.

OK, put a little differently, using "Properties" of the C: drive (from File Explorer) it shows "Capacity 511,291,944,960 bytes ... 476 GB"

Now I get it. It's just coincidence that the Optane's 32GB is close to the amount "missing." I knew there was SOME loss (not true 512) but I didn't know it was that much.
