Reading Total Data Written

I recently bought a Intel X25m G2 160 GB harddrive, and have 2 questions regarding to it.

1. I use linux primarily, though have Windows 7 installed, the first question is that in windows Intel SSD Toolbox gives information on how much total data has been written. Is there a way to achieve the same information in linux? I have tried using smartmontools, and gnome-disk-utility (palimpsest), neither have given that specific information to me.

2. If anyone knows what version of linux kernel will natively support the trim command?

Well using iostat tells how much data is written since the operating system is turned on. So a indirect method. But helps keep an eye on total writes. Something to watch early, to make tweaks if something is particularly disk intensive.
