S25-M 160GB SSD Will format as FAT32 but not as NTFS. What's up with that?

Windows 8, Intel SSD 160GB. NOT the system drive.

When I installed the drive the system saw it. I then tried to format it as NTFS but Win 8 would not format the drive that way. After a few failed attempts at that I tried to format it as FAT32 and that worked.

I can probably use the drive fine in FAT32 mode, but I'd prefer to use NTFS.

Do any of you have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,

Rich

Hello Rich,

The issue seems odd; however, as I am not aware where is the drive connected to, I would like to suggest using an internal SATA connection or different SATA controller (SATA port 0). If the issue is present that way, you may try a secure erase using the Intel® SSD Toolbox and then try formatting it again. Otherwise, I hope you can also format it in a different system.
