The SMART Power-on hours of Intel 535 never increased

MTsai33

Hi,

I have an Intel 535 480GB drive (SSDSC2BW480H6), with firmware RG21. I found that the SMART attribute 0x09 "Power-on hours" stick to zero and never increased. In contrast, my other Intel driver functioned properly on this value, and the precision is down to milliseconds. How to fix this problem? Thanks.

Hello, MTsai33.

Thank you very much for waiting.

There does not seem to be a problem with the report.

After comparing the SMART details from both drives the only noticeable difference is that the one with the problem has not been in use for as long as the other drive with the correct counter (Power-On Hours Count) and there is no particular period of time for it to start counting.

Since the  Power-On Hours Count is not a critical parameter, in your case I would recommend to keep an eye on it and also run the diagnostics (Quick/Full diagnostic) using the Intel SSD Toolbox.

You may also try to connect the drive using the same port and cables as the one with the correct counter.

You will be contacted directly via e-mail to continue with the process.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Hi MTsai33,

We can see the log provided for analysis, OS reports are not the best source of Intel® SSD information; in order to obtain the most detailed information about your SSD health, in case you have access to a windows* PC system, we have available the Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox, for the Windows* OS, please follow this link to get access to the download site: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28808/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox?product=80096

For current installation instructions, please follow this link to the Intel® SSD Toolbox Installation Guide: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/ssdc/ssd-software/Intel_SSD_Toolbox_3.x_In... then proceed with the instructions for installation.

Please refer to the user guide, by following this link: Intel® SSD Toolbox User Guide: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/IntelSolidStateDriveToo... go to section 3 for instructions on obtaining SSD and System Information. Please export SMART attributes as indicated on section 3.4 and post the .csv log to your reply.

We will be looking forward to your reply.

Have a nice day

Hi,

Here's the full report. The "Power-On Hours Count" remains zero.

Hi MTsai33,

Thank you for the information provided; we have checked de SMART details provided and indeed the Power-On hours count is not being reported; however the power cycle count and time workload are present and seem oddly low, for a drive this age.

Can you confirm how long you have had this SSD in use? Some other values appear very low.

We would like to indicate, a Firmware Update is needed, your SSD is not running the latest version, this could help on SSD performance and fixes as Intel might have identified the need for update, please update firmware to RG21. You can use Toolbox to perform the update, refer to user guide section 6.2 for detailed instructions.

We will be looking forward to your reply.

Have a nice day

I've used this drive for several days, including installing Windows 10 on this drive, and running the OS. This drive originally came with firmware RG21, and the problem existed at that time. Then, I update the firmware to RG2V , which is the latest version provided by Intel (***Link Removed***). However, it doesn't solve my problem.

I've updated my other 535 drives to RG2V before. All these drives work properly without affecting the "Power-On hours" value.
