I have a 80 Gig G2 hard drive in win 7 32 and 64 runs like a sata 1 max read speeds is 130, but i also did a fresh install of linux Ubuntu 10.04 and used its disk utility and it reads at 280 whatthe heck is going on with win 7

Mikehe,

Your drive is only running in SATA 1 mode in Windows, so that explains the slower speeds. Not sure why you are getting 280MB/s in Linux Ubuntu. What chipset do you have in your system?

off the top of my head an Intel chipset Mobile Intel® GS45 Express i think thats what in it

I need to know the version of the southbridge(ICH) in that chipset. Go to device manager and look under system devices. Then find the entry for the Intel ICH9XX LPC Interface Controller. For that entry, there should be a 4 character number at the end, like 2920, 2915, or something like that. Please let me know that number.
