Hello erikovick,

As I understand, you want to do a Secure Erase on the Intel® 530 SSD that has the Operating System installed. If that is the case, please consider the following:

- Secure Erase permanently deletes all data on an Intel SSD. Back up any data you might want to keep before performing a Secure Erase.

- The SSD must be a secondary drive in the system. Secure Erase cannot be used to delete the data from the Boot drive.

You can use a 3rd party tool, running as bootable media, to perform the secure erase on the main drive, for further details refer to the following advisory:

http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-032319.htm When Do You Need to Run a Low-Level Format on an Intel® Solid-State Drive?

Another option is to use a Linux Live CD or bootable USB drive to boot the computer, then you will have the option to secure erase the SSD.

Hello erikovick,

The Secure Erase is considered a form of Low Level Format, and is used to "purge" or "zero" the drive.

Secure Erase is an unrecoverable operation that permanently deletes all data on an Intel SSD. Secure Erase executes the ATA Security Erase Unit command and the Enhanced Erase Mode command to eliminate not only the user data section of the SSD, but also the reserve data area, rendering data remnants virtually unrecoverable. This makes Secure Erase different from a standard delete or format operation.

You can find additional details about Secure Erase in the following documents:

then, if I want to format my disk that steps should follow, or only format with the Installation Wizard
