Ax200 Indonesia Regulatory Domain is incomplete

Can't scan AP running on channel 36 because the card set itself to right regulatory domain but outdated list of allowable channel (checked using iw tools). Is there a way to update the allowable channel on this card ? For reference i attach latest pdf containing allowable channel (fetch from jdih(.)kominfo(.)go(.)id). Please refer to table 1 on page 18 to find list of allowable frequency range for RLAN devices, then go to Page 3 point 10 for definition of RLAN class devices.

My worry is, because of this problem, it might hinder day to day activity where large scale ap deployment might require the new channel where this card can't connect to or provide poor performance in a case of roaming where some ap isn't accessible because of this. I have a little edit for my original post, Channel 36 was scannable not scannable but not nor connectable as self managed regulatory domain decides to disable channel 36 through 64 on ID regulatory domain.

Any Intel Wifi is pretty much useless, cannot even utilize full AC speed. I have AX201 which is built in on my OMEN15.

This has been discussed before on this thread

Wifi AX201 Lock Wifi Interface to 173.3Mbps (Channel Width 20MHz only) - Intel Community

However, there're no result until the end.

Seriously Intel, how hard is it to update your firmware to allow those channels ?? It's been years. And I really surprised that no tech channel / influencer bothered by this. Obviously we're not the only one affected by this ridiculous speed limitation on supposedly fast wifi 6/6E

I could only hope intel acknowledge and fix this problem then... AX200 is not EOL-ed yet right ? I've look at this card history on bugzilla and related to LAR feature, I really hope it's updateable via firmware loader function run by device drivers on linux and windows as well.

Hi Jose,

After trying both point you just mention, this wifi card (ax200) still cannot scan the AP running on channel 36. I have set default/recommended settings on ax200 based on table of Recomended settings above, and looked at wifi analyzer apps on android to confirm if there is any channel interference (confirm no interference on channel 36). I also changed my AP to 40Mhz and it's still didn't fix wifi scanning issue on channel 36.

Hello silkatar900

Thank you for patiently waiting.

We received an update on this matter. Our network adapter (Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (Gig+)) doesn't block or manage channel settings, those should be managed via AP.

In addition, channel availability is regulated by each country we don't control channel allowance.

In this case, we highly recommend checking with the system manufacturer for further assistance. Please keep in mind that this case will no longer be monitored.

Best regards,

Hi Jose,

I know this might be my last reply to this post, but please let me write this in my thread. Thank you for replying and clarifying the problem i had. It was managed by AP because AP announced itself the Regulatory domain, then AX200 applied known channel saved in the card itself. So i don't really agree with my network adapter (Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (Gig+)), not being in control of what channel it allowed to transmit because it contradicts with what my AP known as good channel to transmit itself.

I get myself a new home in german, and it applied itself new channel allowance. So let me thank you for your help and the engineer that help you along the way to answer my question in this thread.

Goodbye,

SilkATar
