Driver issue Centrino Advanced-N 6205 & Windows 7

Hi !

I have tried all combinations (i think), but Windows refuses to load my driver for the WLAN-card. It says:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Also, I have run the "Manual Diagnostic Tool". The test fails on the first one "Hardware Test" with this result: Wireless Hardware id not bound to transport driver"

The PC is an Dell AlienWare M11xR3 with Windows 7. First I tried the drivers provided by Dell, then I'v tried the driver provided by Intel Wireless_15.3.1_s64, but the Windows wont load it !

Can anybody help with this please! I called Dell support but they could not help me, they suggested to re-install windows and apply all the drivers in the correct order, which I already did the first time...

Regards,

Oskar

Hello, thank you for your post.

The driver download that you mention is the correct generic version for windows 7 64bit.

We do recommend using the drivers specifically from Dell since those have been tested with your system configuration and may have been customized.

If the wireless adapter was exchanged then the issue would be related to the fact that it would not be compatible with your system altogether. but otherwise if the system did come with this adapter then you should be using the drivers from Dell.

Before installing the Dell drivers check in device manager and uninstall the Intel(r) Centrino Advanced-N 6250. also in control panel/uninstall a program look for the Intel(R) PROSet Wireless/WiFi software and uninstall it also. After this you would re-try the driver install.

The error message you describe is usually related to using incorrect/non-tested drivers or failing hardware.

Hello,

I would like to add few things to this post, since I have the same problem as Oskar and I've been trying a lot of things.

My computer is a HP Elitebook 8470p with the same card as you Oskar: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.

OS is Windows 7 pro 64 bits.

Your answere, Nathalie, says to install our computers manufacturer's driver.

Here is what I have tried so far:

-Install Windows pilots

-Install HP specific pilots (with and without the Intel proset wireless software, of several versions, old and new ones)

-Install Intel specific pilots (with and without the Intel proset wireless software, of several versions, old and new ones)

All the pilots install successfully, without exception, and nothing in Device Manager says there might be something wrong: the card is there and it says it is working properly.

Even after reboots, here is what is happening:

  • no wireless network is shown neither in intel proset wireless software, neither in Windows wireless network connections

  • the card is not listed in ipconfig /all
  • Running the "Manual Diagnostic Tool", the test fails on the first one "Hardware Test" with this result: Wireless Hardware id not bound to transport driver"

HINTS:

I've tried booting the computer with Ubuntu and the card is working fine: I see all the wifi networks and I can connect. This really is a problem with the drivers for Windows 7, especially 64 bits version.

Please, a fix would be appreciated, since Internet is full of forums with people having this specific problem. Saying to contact our manufacturer is not going to help, since they say to contact Intel. We would appreciate to use your product...

thanks a lot in advance!

Perhaps resetting the TCP/IP and Winsock may help. Try running the following commands using an elevated command prompt (run as administrator) and restart your system:

Netsh int ip reset

Netsh winsock reset

In case the issue persists contact the computer manufacturer for further assistance since you have tried several different driver versions.

Joe! Joe! It worked!

here is what I have made:

uninstall intel proset wireless

uninstall VPN (this is my work computer)

uninstall driver+card in windows Device Manager

reboot

netsh int ip reset

netsh winsock reset

reboot

install intel proset/wireless 15.6.1 --> go in advanced options, hook enterprise network, home network, all networks (sorry this is a free translation from french)

I don't know wich one of these was the problem: VPN ? home network not installed by default with intel proset wireless? It really needed the ip and winsock resets? Not sure, since I did everything at the same time...

This is going to help IT guys at my job that are stuck with a lot of HP computers with this wireless card, for sure! AND I'm proud to say that this is the first solution for this problem on a forum on the whole Internet... Grats, we made a great teamwork! thanks Joe!

I am glad to know you got it working. Hopefully the IT guys there may identify what specific step solves the issue, unless it is actually the combination of steps.

I have similar issues with a 6205 Adapter after I discovered it would cause a BSOD error if connected to a 5GHZ only wireless connection at a recent conference.

Otherwise, my wireless adapter was working fine anywhere else. However, since I uninstalled the drive in an attempt to add a new one, it hasn't been able to work for me, even when i followed the instructions above.

When I finish the proset install, I get "Adapter Problem: Device Driver not Installed"

Any ideas what I could do as a result?

Tomasz9772, we strongly suggest contacting the system manufacturer for any question related to wireless hardware integration or replacement since this is subject to compatibility and local regulatory approvals.

Only your system manufacturer is entitled to provide the list of validated and certified adapters that are compatible with your system and the proper means to do the hardware exchange for you.

Hello,

This same thing has happened to me but with no resolution yet. My Alienware M14x windows 7 (64) was working fine, then one day the wireless disappeared. I looked in device manager and all wireless related items had an exclamation point. i tried everything such as: uninstall Intel Pro/Wireless, netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, uninstall from device drive didn't work, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew. I'm so despite I even bought a new Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 card. Still the wireless doesn't work, it doesn't even display the wireless networks icon in the system tray. I tried to manually download Intel Pro/Wireless which fails each time.

Please help.

-Tony

Hello isttony,

The best option at this point would be to contact your system manufacturer in order to check if the have any updates for the original wireless card that might resolve the issue as the original card has been modified and customized according to the manufacturer's needs so it can be fully compatible with their system.. As for an integration, which is when the original card is replaced for another one, it is important that you know that Intel does not support this kind of procedure because only your system manufacturer is entitled to provide the list of approved, tested and certified adapters that are compatible with their system. Furthermore, Intel(R) Wireless Adapters are meant to be professionally installed only by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) technicians on certified systems only.
