Error when installing 22.180.0 for Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 on notebook

I can manually install the drivers with the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for IT Admins. But when I try running the Intel Software Installer for 22.180.0, I get this error message:

  • One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup.

The log says:

  • [3A00:1D14][2022-11-21T22:27:09]e000: System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
    Parameter name: settingsPath at BootstrapperUX.Models.UWDInstallBundle.LoadConfiguration()

Should I be worried about this, or can I ignore it?

I thought I had successfully installed 22.180.0 last week with the installer, but I can't remember for sure.

Yesterday I ran a Lenovo installer of an old driver 21.80.10 while following Lenovo support's instruction for something else. But I did not delete the newer drivers beforehand.

Today when I tried again to install 22.180.0, I got the error message.

If I now uninstall the WiFi device in device manager and checkmark delete drivers until they're all gone, then when I try the previous version installer for 22.170.0, I get the error message:

  • A newer product version is already installed.

The log says:

  • [2124:3F54][2022-11-21T22:31:34]i102: Detected related bundle: {5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}, type: Upgrade, scope: PerMachine, version: 22.180.0.4, operation: Downgrade

The registry points to 2 directories which it labels both as 22.180.0.4:

  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{30EDBBE7-D455-4B19-B6EC-EF0F4934ABFE}v22.180.0.4
    • Contains only Docs.Manager.msi

  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}
    • Contains WirelessSetup.exe, xml's, and logs

Can I run commands to get rid of them? For example:

  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}\WirelessSetup.exe" /uninstall
  •
  • MsiExec.exe /X{30EDBBE7-D455-4B19-B6EC-EF0F4934ABFE}

And the registry entries:

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Dependencies\{30EDBBE7-D455-4B19-B6EC-EF0F4934ABFE}\Dependents\{5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}

Hello EntelWirelessAdapter,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I am sorry to know that you are having issues with your Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (Gig+).

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed on your computer or did you change/install the adapter to this one?

2. Is the Bluetooth working?

3. What is the brand and model name of your laptop?

4. Do you have any performance issues when you install the driver version 22.180.0?

5. Did you try the clean install steps with version 22.180.0?

6. Do you see any errors in the device manager when you installed version 22.180.0?

Best regards,

Hello Deivid,

1. Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed on your computer or did you change/install the adapter to this one?

It is soldered onto the motherboard.

2. Is the Bluetooth working?

Yes, bluetooth is working and there is no problem with the automatic software installer for bluetooth.

3. What is the brand and model name of your laptop?

Lenovo Slim 7 AMD 4800U

4. Do you have any performance issues when you install the driver version 22.180.0?

Not so far.

5. Did you try the clean install steps with version 22.180.0?

Yes, I used the "uninstall device" with "delete drivers / software" until all are gone, and tried running the Intel Software Installer again.

6. Do you see any errors in the device manager when you installed version 22.180.0?

There are no errors in device manager when with the manually installed 22.180.0

The problem is that the orphaned installation files and/or broken registry links to a previous installation of 22.180.0 seem to be causing Intel Software Installer to fail for current and older driver installers. The clean install steps do not remove them or solve the problem.

I would like to find a way to remove them in case they cause problems with future driver installations.

For example, could I run these commands? In CMD or powershell? Is the syntax correct?

  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}\WirelessSetup.exe" /uninstall
  •
  • MsiExec.exe /X{30EDBBE7-D455-4B19-B6EC-EF0F4934ABFE}

Thanks

Hello, I have also faced the same issue. I successfully installed the 22.180.0.4 driver for the Intel AX211 using the Intel driver update and support assistant when it was first released, but since having some network problems I have followed steps to uninstall the wifi driver, and now I can no longer install the 22.180.0.4 using either the DSA or the .exe driver package. I have installed the update manually using the device manager and it seems to be working normally, but the .exe driver package still shows the error "One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup."

I have checked the log files and they show the same error codes.

I am running windows 11 build 22621.898.

Hello EntelWirelessAdapter,

Thanks, for the extra information. In order to investigate further this behavior, please provide the following:

1. A report from the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU):

2. Take picture of the errors that you mentioned. This is to have a better understanding of the issue.

Hello EntelWirelessAdapter,

I was checking your thread and see that we have not heard back from you. I’m going to close your post, but if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to create a new thread.

I recommend you check with Lenovo to confirm that there are no restrictions or blocks placed on their site for the Intel drivers.

Hi Deivid,

Thanks for your help.

I don't want to share the whole SSU log.

  • So I only attached the parts related to the Intel WiFi adapter, OS, and laptop model.

Also attached are:

  • the screenshots of the error messages when attempting to run the Intel Software Installer for 22.180.0 and 22.170.0,
  • their log files,
  • and the folder contents of the orphaned Package Cache folders that are referenced by the registry from the first successful install of 22.180.0 that seems to be the related to the source of the problem.
    • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{30EDBBE7-D455-4B19-B6EC-EF0F4934ABFE}v22.180.0.4
    • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{5815d801-d03c-4911-a46b-75a331ad7265}

The error message saying that a "newer product version is already installed" from the installer for 22.170.0 still persists even after using the clean uninstall method of removing all drivers for the WiFi adapter in device manager.  The registry entries and Program Cache folders for 22.180.0 still exist.

It seems that the support representative closed the case, so someone will need to create a new thread for them to look at this again.

I've opened a new thread today.

It seems to me this time the installation package is corrupt or trying to do something not permitted, as this is the first time it happen to me in the whole life with Intel drivers.

I have the same issue, did anyone ever solve this problem? Every time I try to run an update for it I keep getting an Intel pop up that says "One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issue then retry setup."
