HP Spectre 13t-3000 CTO with embeded Intel Bluetooth (Intel AC 7260) Connectivity Issues

In April 2014, I purchased an HP Spectre 13t-3000 CTO Notebook. Installed is the the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 WiFi and Bluetooth adapter.

On HP's support website, the latest driver for the Wireless LAN driver is Version 16.6, 215.11M dated 05NOV2013, and the latest driver for the Bluetooth is Version 1.00, 60.86M dated 01NOV2013. With this driver, I experience intermittent connectivity issues with a Microsoft Wedge Mouse and a Canon ip100 Printer with an installed Bluetooth adapter.

Intel's support website detected an updated driver for both the Wireless LAN and Bluetooh. I updated both drivers to version 17. 1.0.19 and 17.0.1405.0464 respectively.

Unfortunately, I still have the same results. I will print a document over the Bluetooh connection, and it stops responding and only prints a partial page.

I know that the Canon ip100 with Bluetooth adapter is functioning properly because I also have a Microsoft Surface Pro with the same Canon printer driver software installed as on the HP Spectre, and I am able to print through the Bluetooth without any problems.

So, the problem lies within the Intel Bluetooth hardware or drivers on the HP Spectre.

Hello AverageJoe,

 

Based on the information you have provided, there are many things can be causing the issue but I need more specifications about your system configuration.

Can you please provide your dxdiag report here? How to get it?

Dxdiag Report: Type dxdiag in Start Menu> open> Save> Attach using Advanced Editor Options.

You also said you replaced the previous Bluetooth and wireless adapter, can you please let me know the adapter brand/model you had before?

Hello Kevin!

Thanks for the help! The USB Bluetooth Adapter mentioned and in question is made by Canon, Bluetooth Unit BU-30, and is designed to plug into an internal USB port on the Canon Pixima ip100 inkjet printer, and possibly other Canon models. When I try to print via Bluetooth the Canon ip100, the print job starts, but never finishes. I receive the following error:

I compared all of the settings from my Surface 3 and the HP Spectre 13t-3000 that I am having difficulty printing from. All of the Bluetooth settings look identical.

So I just want to confirm more things with you.

If you connect the printer and keep it on/ connected but not printing, does the printer stay connected all the time? You can Check this on PC and Devices > Bluetooth.

If printing, does the printer stays connected as well?

Thank you, Kevin, for all of your help!

I finally got it to work! So, when you first pair the Bluetooth Canon Pixma ip100 through Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows goes out and grabs all of the required drivers from Canon and configures on "BTH001 Virtual printer port for Bluetooth", as it did for my Surface Pro 3 with a different manufacture for the Bluetooth.

However, my HP Spectre 13t-3000 CTO with integrated Intel AC 7260 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, there is a second Bluetooth Printer Port option labeled "BTM001 Bluetooth Printer Port". I am not sure if this is Intel specific or not. I selected this port and was able to make three successful "Print Test Page" without any problems.

Okay... so the saga continues. Long story short, HP replaced the motherboard in my HP Spectre 13t-3000 under warranty. After I received the notebook back from repairs, it now has an Intel Wireless-N 7260. I also picked up a an HP EliteBook 820 with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260. Slightly different models, but they both fall under the same driver package.

Going back to my original story, I have a Canon Pixma iP100 portable printer with a Canon BU-30 USB Bluetooth adapter installed. Attempting to print via Bluetooth and the Intel drivers for both notebook, the printer starts out and after printing about 1/10th of the page, the print job stops. Eventually, I receive an error message that the print job could not be completed. The printer requires bidirectional communication. Somewhere in the Intel driver/software package, this bidirectional communication stops.

So, how do I know this an Intel related issue? Well, under Device Manager, I changed the driver to "Generic Bluetooth Adapter" for both notebooks. The printing works without any problems using the generic drivers. Again, the printer requires bidirectional communication set up for the Bluetooth as COM3 for Incoming and COM4 and Outgoing.

How do I go about getting this information up to Intel to work with the team that writes the drivers?

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for the help! For both the Intel Wireless-N 7260 and the Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260, I had already attempted the 17.13.11 version driver (latest) without any success. On both notebooks, I have a Microsoft Wedge Bluetooth Mouse connected, and the Intel Bluetooth drivers appear to work. The issue only comes into play when attempting to print through the Bluetooth with the Intel drivers. With generic drivers, both devices simultaneously connected work without any problems.
