No matter if using the drivers included with Windows 8 or the latest available from Intel downloads page (13.4.0.139) it causes random BSOD's. I have two crash memory dumps to prove it. In addition (if it wasn't enough) the DPC latencies issues that used to take place with Windows 7 64-bit (RTM-SP1) have turned from 1000 micro-seconds spikes every 10 seconds to constant >1000 micro-seconds latencies with >16000 micro-seconds spikes that cause 5-10 seconds audio drop-outs. Of course disabling the wireless adapter solves all the problems but considering a laptop is meant to be wireless this makes no sense. Also the Windows event viewer shows unidentified events with ID: 5010 for "netwlv64" in groups of 10+ with few hours of intervals between them.

Thanks for the answer anyway as it is kind of difficult to dictate a memory dump via phone I would like to do this through e-mail. Which options do I have?

I have similar issues. Randomly my Thinkpad X300 with Intel 4965AGN is going into a BSOD. I'va analyzed the memory dump files and it is also related to the NETWLV64.SYS driver. I'm running the same version of the driver (13.4.0.139). In my case it's always BAD_POOL_HEADER (19).

Same Problem here on Asus V1SN using the same wireless adapter.
Crashdump also points to netwlv64.
BAD_POOL_HEADER (19)
The pool is already corrupt at the time of the current request.
This may or may not be due to the caller.
The internal pool links must be walked to figure out a possible cause of
the problem, and then special pool applied to the suspect tags or the driver
verifier to a suspect driver.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000021, the data following the pool block being freed is corrupt. Typically this means the consumer (call stack ) has overrun the block.
Arg2: fffffa80081dc000, The pool pointer being freed.
Arg3: 0000000000001010, The number of bytes allocated for the pool block.
Arg4: ce0dca6d6158e85c, The corrupted value found following the pool block.

I have had exactly the same issue on an HP latop that has the intel 4965AGN. I've tried quite a few things like trying to use the windows 7 x64 driver for this card. They didn't seem to go on properly. I then read some stuff in the following post "Intel 4965AGN - Wireless drops out with Windows 7 until restart", which lead me try try disabling 802.11n, and simpy using 802.11g. In device manager, for this adapater, under the advanced tab, their is an item called "802.11n mode". I changed it from enabled to disabled. I am using the intel driver that i think came with windows 8, being 13.4.0.139. There is also a microsoft driver on the system which is 13.3.0.137 but i'm not using that. Anyway after disabling 802.11n things seem good. I've manged to download a 3.5Gb iso coming in at about 12 to 13 Mb/s and another of about 1.5GB. No drop out so far, whereas prior to this is was very frequently dropping and i could only get through 40 of 50 Mb of download before it died. I have also tried re-enabling 802.11n and the problem comes back again. Its turned off again now and seem stable so far. I hope this helps out.

I'm also having issues. I have a Dell XPS M1530 which I've upgraded to Windows 8 x64.
With the driver it automatically picked up during the install (13.4.0.139) it dropped the WiFi connection within minutes of connecting.
I then tried installing the PROSet driver package from the Dell Driver Download site. The driver is dated 08/08/2007 and is version 11.1.1.22.
It seems to have improved things a little but it's still really slow and dropping out.
I downloaded the latest version 15.2.0 direct from Intel site and that won't even install...it says it can't upgrade the existing version, even after I manually uninstalled the existing version and the uninstalled the driver from the card.
I don't know if it's netwlv64.sys as reported here, I'm not very technical. I don't actually know what a BSOD is!
Please help, any ideas?
Think it will ever be supported or do I need to go back to Windows 7? :-(

Ouch, just stumbled across this:
http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-033840.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-033840.htm
Here's the snippet below, says 4965AGN is not supported in Windows 8.
But the note says something about an inbox driver that works with Windows 8. What is an inbox driver????
Which Intel® wireless adapters are not supported in Windows 8?
Intel® WiFi/WiMAX Link 5150Intel® WiFi/WiMAX Link 5350
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection
Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGNNote:The Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection and the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapters have an inbox driver that works with Windows 8. However Intel Customer Support does not support the use of Windows 8 with any of the above adapters.

"have an inbox driver that works with Windows 8" -> So should we consider random BSOD's a new standard of "working drivers". After being many years having to cope with this mediocre support then they decide to stop supporting it before fixing any bug during the whole lifecycle of this product. I'll take it mind for my next purchases and recommendations. I thought it was impossible to pass AMD in poor support but definitely Intel has reached a new milestone.

I was having the same problem after I made a clean install of windows 8 pro x64 to my vaio VGN-FZ31M laptop. Every time I was using the wireless adaptor(Intel 4965 AGN) the pattern was BSOD-> Memory dump -> restart. I tried everything :
1) Downloaded the latest driver for win 7 x64 but it seems that you can't exactly install it. Didn't work
2) Tried to deactivate the driver signature enforcement but the result was the same.
3) Uninstalled the current driver that windows has automatically picked for my hardware configuration and I chose to manually install an older driver (version 13.x.x. something). Didn't work either.
So...
OK the solution that has worked for me, was to download the legacy drivers for windows Vista x86(Wireless LAN Driver Intel 11.1.1 W - 11.1.1.16) !!! from the official Sony web site and before installing them I first uninstalled manually every version of driver that windows were keeping stored. Since then everything is working flawlessly...Hopefully you can replay my procedure and sort this problem too.

Hello
I also have this problem as well. My computer is a Compal FL90 using Windows 8. All drivers are updated, the Intel 4695AGN device is using the drivers provided by Microsoft.
I ge blue screens when the computer is connected to any WPA2 protected network, however it works fine with any Open or WPA protected wireless. I haven't tested WEP encryption.
Is there a way to ask Inel to provide a basic working driver. This gets to be a bit annoying
Thank you.

Hi, the key is to use an old working driver.
If you have a Dell, use this one (Works on any Windows x64, I am using it on Windows 8):
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/es/es/esbsdt1/DriverDetails?driverId=R202961 http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/es/es/esbsdt1/DriverDetails?driverId=R202961
If don't, try it anyway, or search for your OEM one.
After 3 days there is no "netwlv64.sys event 5010" (or similar with the corresponding driver files, that are another ones) at all.
Update: passed the "Drive verifier" successfully (no BSoD). Link about this test: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.HTML
This driver "is" for Vista but Windows 7 and 8 use the same driver model, so you can use it without problem on Windows 7 and 8.

Well, there is a problem with the Dell R202961 driver for Vista x64.
The driver passess the "Drive verifier", and there are no "netwlv64.sys event 5010", but when I opened the reliability monitor, I have seen tons of Errors, the faulty application is WLANExt.exe and the reason because C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\TraceApi.dll, part of the driver mentioned before.
IMO, I prefer to have info events (the 5010) than reliability errors, with this in mind, my conclussion is that the best driver for Windows 8 is the included one with the system, the Microsoft one.
We can try to change the device energy settings and uncheck the "Allow to turn off..." option, it has solved many problems for other devices and other computers.
