Intel 6230 ALSO sporadically dropping on Windows 8 and 8.1 computers

The Intel 6230 has the same "sporadic dropping problem" in Windows 8 environments as you have documented for those adapters identified at this URL: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034535.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034535.htm -0 yet the 6230 is **NOT** listed there. I **have** tried installing the same SW you recommended for resolving dropping of those adapters you did list, but it does **Not** seem to resolve the sporadic dropping of the 6230 adapter on my Windows 8.1 laptop. Please Help.

I understand the trouble you are experiencing. I wonder if you have tried any of the recommendations posted below and it might be important to be aware of the details of your network environment.

Joe:

Thanks for replying so quickly - and my apologies for not responding sooner.

Here's the deal: this is a 6230 chip, and I have other 6xxx [But not 6230] chips on other laptops in the same vicinity which do NOT have this problem of sporadic "dropping".

I **Have** applied all the available fixes (after further searching I saw another path thru an Intel download site that **did** indicate that latest update **Should** also apply to the 6230. But It DOES NOT WORK.

I don't have this problem "all the time", but it is not happening when the microwave is on, or my wireless landline phone sets are on, or anything like that (i.e., not because of the "usual culprits" which interfere with the 2.4 or 5.0 Ghz bandwidth] - and as I mentioned above, it is NOT happening with other laptops ALSO using [other - NON-6230] Intel 1/2-sized PCMCIA NICs.

NOW - on a **Related** - but **NOT The Same** matter - I **Did** notice that the Intel Proset SW profiles override the Windows default network profiles - and I am deducing, override them with some non-settable **default** parameters which are definitely **Worse** settings than the settable ones in Windows [i.e., I can tell Windows network settings to "Enable Intel Connection Settings" after which I can then tell it to "Prefer" the 5.2 Ghz bandwidth and to use Cisco Radio measurement - both settings of which seem to stabilize the connection] - the options available to me in the Intel Proset profile are **Not** as expansive. But once I discovered that these default options were happening - [whatever it is that they default to] were making my connection worse, I over-rode them so that my system uses Windows default network settings and allows me to do the things I indicate right above.

BUT - I still get sporadic dropping on the laptop using the 6230.

NOW - I have solved the problem for now by installing a Range Extender. BUT I really want to make the case: I only needed to do this because of this one Laptop that uses the 6230 NIC. My other laptops in the same area (actually FURTHER away from my basement wireless router than the one with the 6230 NIC) were **Not** sporadically dropping the network connection like this one was.

I'm convinced there is a problem with that chip that your SW has not yet resolved.

Joe:

It was a Cisco RE2000 Range **Extender**, not a **Repeater** (these two components act **very** differently).

But no, I can't agree with your conclusion - not even a little. The fact that the 6230 drops when **ALL** my other computers (3 other computers) around it - two of them also with 6XXX chips (one of them has an Apple NIC), do NOT drop - when they are actually located FURTHER away from the Router (and behind additional walls and sources of disruption like my microwave, unlike the laptop with the 6230) when the 6230 **Does Drop** indicates a fundamental problem with the 6230 and/or its firmware.

My request is that you escalate this to engineering.

Thanks,

So, by solving the issue with the repeater we could say the cause was the signal strength or other sort of interference like walls.

I have been informed a new driver version will be released soon so we can see if it helps.

Fabulous - thanks Joe. What is "Soon"? a Week? a Month? a Quarter? [Just want to know when to start checking]
