Intel 7260Ac with Asus N750JK slow wifi

Hi,

I have an Asus N750JK notebook and replaced the default wifi adapter (Qualcomm Atheros) with the Intel 7260AC+BT.

This is done because i like to have the AC speed for wifi.

My Router is the Asus RT-Ac68U (firmware: 3.0.0.4.376.1663= latest)

I have installed the latest drivers for the card 17.1.0

Now in practice:

Because I noticed the slow wireless speed i did some testing:

Both notebooks placed on the same spot, tests in succession.

Speed test done with file transfert to Nas. Wired speed to nas is approx 100 mb/sec.

We can clearly see the slow AC performance here.

On 2.4g transfer speed is approx 14mb/sec on 5g max performance on 80Mhz is around 8Mb/sec.

This is almost half the speed of the 2.4g speed.

I've also changed some adapter settings, but no real difference.

Do i have a faulty adapter or is it something else?

Are those MEGABYTES or MEGABITS per second?

MEGABYTES it is.

Done another test with another AC router Zyxel NBG6716.

AC performance is even worse.

Also checked the wireless signal with Inssider which indicates a signal of -60 db (5G) and max speed of 526 mbps.

There are no other 5G networks in range.

526 mbps should translate to let's say 30-35Mb/sec not 8 or 9 Mb/sec.

Hi Davr, try disabling the uAPSD in the advanced adapter settings and test in a clear line of sight to the router.

You may also want to verify with the system manufacturer if this wireless adapter was validated to be used with your computer model.

Hi Joe,

Done some testing, router in clear line of sight.

Connection speed is now 780-866,7 mbps.

Did the same test and file transfer to the Nas is now 43 Mb/sec, now this is ac speed.

Also changed the uAPSD setting but it doesn't make any real difference.

Asus dit not tell me if the 7260ac is validated for the N750Jk but the laptop is available with 2 wireless cards, Qualcomm and the intel 7260n card.

So if the 7260n is valid, i suppose the 7260ac also is?

So very strange only one wall can make this kind of speed difference, never had this problem with my other not AC speed adapter.

I am afraid I am not able to guarantee that as a fact, only the system manufacturer can.

802.11ac works at 5 GHz which is more susceptible to objects and walls as it cannot penetrate as well as 2.4 GHz

Hi joe_intel,

I know 5G is more susceptible to objects and walls but when both adapters 5100 and 7260 are in 5G N-mode,

So 5G band 40 Mhz not ac mode on router Asus Rt-Ac68u, when i test the connection speed with the HP Dv7 (intel 5100 adapter) i get speeds around 9Mb/sec

When i do the same test with the new Asus N750jk (intel 7260ac) on the exact same spot, the speed reduces by half so around 4-5 Mb/sec.

Is this because the 7260ac adapter is not sensitive enough or maybe a faulty one?

What i do find very strange, on the 2.4G band it's just the opposite, the 5100 doesn't get past 9Mb/sec whereas the 7260ac is doing 14 Mb/sec.

Any Idea?

Hi Joe_intel,

What's the deal with the new 'R' version

Intel Network 7260.HMWG.R

Is this the revised adapter?

The internal laptop antennas must accomodate the 5Ghz (AC) signal and obviously they cannot.

The other guys said already that 5Ghz band does not penetrate solid objects like 2.4Ghz and has to be used in a clear line of sight.
