Intel AC 3160 will not download any faster then about 16mbs.

My Dell Inspiron 7000 series has a Intel AC 3160 that will not download any faster then about 16mbs. A comcast rep used his laptop on wireless and it ht 70mbs. What do I have to change to take achieve the same download speeds?

I should note I ran the Windows update utility, went to the driver and tried to update it, its states its at the latest. Windows firewall is off fr the private network.

Hello Mamcdonald,

Connectivity issues may be caused by different factors. Please apply the following actions to prevent the most common reasons:

- Contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support and make sure you are using the most current driver recommended for your system. As second option, you can use http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect Intel® Driver Update Utility to obtain the most recent drivers from Intel Download Center.

- Apply the configuration from the advisory: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-030709.htm?wapkw=wifi+recommended+settings Wireless Networking — What are the Recommended Settings for 802.11n Connectivity?

- Disable Bluetooth and check if this helps with the connection. This is normally done with a switch in the chassis of the PC, or with a keyboard combination. It can be also be done in the OS configuration.

For further assistance we will need additional information:

- Was the adapter built from factory into your computer?

- Does the issue happen in 5 GHz networks?

- Operating System version (32 or 64 bit)

- Driver version shown in device manager

- Wireless Access Point (router) model and firmware version.

First let me thank you for the reply.

1. I do have the latest driver from Intel, I used Intel Driver Update Utility, it brought me to 18.12.0.3

2. 3. I Disabled bluetooth

4. I updated my BIOS

- Does the issue happen in 5 GHz networks? I'm using a ZOOM router/modem it cannot use 5 GHZ, but from what I read 2.4 GHz is best, here is mine...http://www.zoomtel.com/products/5354.html Zoom Telephonics - N300 Cable Modem/Router

- Operating System version (32 or 64 bit) Was using Windows 8.1 64 bit when issue was noticed, just upgraded to Windows 10, issue still present

- Driver version shown in device manager 18.12.0.3

- Wireless Access Point (router) model and firmware version. N300 Cable Modem/Router Model 5354, Comcast updates the firmware on this model automatically

Since you are using a single-band Wireless-N router, you can adjust the Advanced properties of the Wireless Adapter, this may help you get better connection to 802.11n networks.

802.11n channel width for band 2.4: 20 MHz.

802.11n channel width for band 5.2: Auto (not in 20 MHz only)

Fat channel intolerant: Disabled

Roaming aggressiveness: Medium/low or lowest.

Throughput enhancement: Disabled

Transmit power: Highest

Wireless mode: 802.11 a/b/g

Also, try the following to limit 802.11ac features and improve 802.11n connectivity:

HT mode: HT mode

uAPSD: Disabled

Additionally, set your wireless power plan to Maximum Performance. This is done by going to the Windows* Power Options - Change plan settings - Advanced power settings, and set the Wireless adapter to Maximum Performance, when plugged in and on battery.

Please let us know if there is any change in the behavior after the actions recommended.
