Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 "will not start"

I have an PciE Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless network card in my Desktop.

I have for the last year used a USB wifi adapter since I could not get the Intel PciE to work with Windows Vista. I just got Windows 7 and I seem to have the same issue. I used the latest driver from Intel download page, but Windows can not start the device "code 10". I have searched around and all I got is: update the driver. So I did, at least I thought I did:

Windows tells me the driver version is: 15.15.0.1 (from 17-11-2014), but the file name is Wireless_17.14.0_Ds64.exe and the download page says: 17.14.0 (Previously released) Date: 01/26/2015.

How do I get Windows to use the driver I am executing? Can I extract the exe file to get the driver out an install it manually?

Ducatimatrix,

Did you have a previous card working on this desktop previously?

Did you try to clean uninstall the drive until Windows* no longer detect any driver files ? If not please do so through Device Manager. Then you can reinstall the drivers again from our support page: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/59471/Intel-Centrino-Advanced-N-6205 Intel® Download Center
