Hello Intel Community
We have users with Lenovo laptops with Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 WNICs configured on 5GHz Preferred band on WIN10 card parameters, however, we find daily that are machines still connecting on corporate WLAN on 2.4Ghz band even with 5GHz Preferred band parameter (corporate WLAN offers both bands, but clients should prefer 5Ghz)
They have driver v20.30.0.7, ¿if we upgrade to 20.50.1 this issue could be fixed ?

Hello radw62,
Thanks for posting. We understand that you would like your systems to connect to wireless on 5GHz band only.
Please notice this is not considered an issue from the wireless adapter or driver side. Even though you may tell the adapter to prioritize a band, the disposition of the bands and the actual network management is done by the router or access point.
Reading the release notes for the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005559/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html latest Intel wireless adapter drivers, there's no mention of changes involving band preference. However, we recommend to update the driver on at least one of the systems for testing.
The best approach would be to either review the router settings or disable the 2.4GHz completely.
Please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.
Best regards,
Eugenio F.
