Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 performance on ThinkPad P14s Gen5i

In regard to original thread Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 performance on ThinkPad P14s Gen5i, I was finally able to perform some additional tests required by @RobbieR_Intel:

Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen5 Intel (21G2000BGE) equipped with AX211 performs very poorly in Wi-Fi connectivity, compared to older Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen1 AMD (20UJ0014SC), equipped with AX200.

  • laptop is located in home office approx. 10 meters from the router
  • technically, signal needs to pass through two thin and one concrete wall, but all the doors are always open
  • see layout in attached drawing

While it might seem like a lot of obstacles, on the very same desk both laptops set side by side (see attached photo), show very different results:

Measured with inSSIDer, signal strength doesn't show much difference (see attached screenshots):

  • P14s G5: -70 dBm
  • T14s G1: -69 dBm

But the speed test shows radical difference:

  • P14s G5:   32 Mbps download / 127 Mbps upload / ping 26
  • T14s G1: 323 Mbps download / 240 Mbps upload / ping   5

Both laptops are connected to their original chargers, set in Best Performance power mode, with all latest BIOS and driver updates applied.

Hi igs417,

Thank you for posting in the Community!

I would like to clarify some things first.

Do you remember if this issue happened after a new OS update or Wireless driver update?

Have you tried a roll back to a previous driver version for testing?

Have you tried clean installation of the wireless driver?

Here's the link for reference:

Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers

Please note that this is an OEM device, so I will try to assist you with general troubleshooting steps. However, if the issue persists, you will have to contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer of your device. Your device manufacturer may have altered features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to some components for better compatibility with your system.

Best regards,

Hi igs417,

To improve your Wi-Fi connection, please check your Access Point (AP) settings and adjust the 5GHz band from 160MHz to 40MHz or 80MHz. For more detailed steps, you can refer to the article Quick Checks to Improve or Fix Wi-Fi Connection Issues.

I will be closing this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new thread for this issue.
