Intel WiFi - 5100 AGN not working with Windows 8

Hi,

I have a Dell Studio 15 - 1555 Laptop with Intel Wireless 5100 AGN. I updated it to Windows 8. However, the WiFi is not working. I tried several things like re-installing windows 8, downloading latest drivers from Intel, clearing up the tcp/ip, winsock, flushing dns, etc., but nothing seemed to work. I got a link which says to install version 15.3.50 for Intel 5100 AGN. http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-033845.htm http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-033845.htm However I downloaded the version, but couldn't find the driver for 5100 AGN inside. It has other drivers but this one is missing. (I downloaded the zip file for 15.3.50 and went to device manager -> and selected the setup.inf file to install. No matter how many times I try, it will only show version 14.x.x.x. Please help.

Thank you for your post.

We regret to inform you that currently there are no drivers for the 5000 series wireless adapters in Windows* 8. We are in the process of correcting the pages stating otherwise.

We are sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.

At least, is there any plan to release Windows 8 driver for 5100 WiFi adapter?

I really hope you will make 5100 series drivers for for W8 soon. I just upgraded from W7 and it would be a real pain in the ass to reinstall everything.

I got it working, but don't know exactly what did the trick since I tried a lot of stuff. Start with uninstalling all firewall/anti-virus software like NOD/ESET. If that's not working try manually installing drivers for windows 7 and see if that helps.

@Matej, I don't have any anti virus software installed. It is a clean install of Windows 8. I tried various versions of Windows 7 drivers. Would you mind letting me know the driver version you use for Intel 5100 AGN?

Thanks for sharing your drivers Elvir, but I couldn't resolve the issue by upgrading the driver. I have ordered a new replacement internal WiFi adapter (Intel 4965 AGN) and keeping my fingers crossed until it works.

I hope that would work, and i will post my results here..

It was not working with Windows 8. I did not Googled first but thought my Server2012 -DHCP is not working good. But then I figure out that this card wont work good with Windows 8. But hey, If I give Static IP then it works fine. In short, In AUto, its getting all information correct, but for some reason it wont get throgh.

Give it a try using Static IP and it should work fine.

I am trying older drivers. If something Works I will come back and post updates.

Thanks.

We apologize for the inconvenience as there are no plans to provide Windows 8 drivers for the Intel® WiFi Link 5100 based on the articles below since it has become a legacy product. There are newer adapter models fully supported on Windows 8. We will let you know if this changes in the future. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

Hi Joe

I appear to be lucky with my current 5100 AGN as it runs perfectly (within reason - see below) with the generic Windows 8.1 driver!

However, please can you provide advice on which Intel card to buy as a replacement/upgrade - as follows:

I am a UK resident using the ISP Virgin Media which has just upgraded my broadband download speed from 60mbs to 100mbs. My main PC is an Acer Aspire 6930 Lap Top - running Windows 8.1 64bit - adaptor card Intel (R) wifi Link 5100 AGN.

On ethernet I am obtaining the full 100mbs, but on wireless am only receiving 60mbs (exactly the same as before the upgrade!

Virgin support personnel have remotely reviewed my system and concluded the wireless card is the problem, and your statement appears to confirm their view.

My question therefore is "what card to buy"?

Thanks

David

NB Would prefer to purchase an exact replacement. i.e. NOT a USB substitute.

Only the system manufacturer can provide a list of validated wireless adapters for your system. I am sorry for the trouble.
