Intel Wifi 6 AX201 160 MHZ stopped working

Hello, I have a new Microsoft Surface laptop (Microsoft Surface 3 13.5" Touchscreen Laptop - Matte Black (Intel Core i7-1065G7/256GB SSD/16GB RAM) less than a year old and last Sunday, the intel wifi card (Intel Wifi 6 AX201 160 MHZ) randomly stopped working. 

 

The wifi tab in my settings has disappeared and I've had to use a lan cable to connect online.

 

I see other users have been having a similar issue and it hasn't been resolved and I've been hoping a driver update will be available soon. But in the meantime, thought I'd post anyway in the event there is something else going on.

 

I've posted 2 screenshots here, the driver error message and code:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

 

and my system specs. I've tried about everything on my own from Googling and tried the suggestions here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/WiFi-intel-WiFi-6-ax201-160MHz-status-not-operational/m-p/1256523#M34123 with Windows 10. I even tried updating to Windows 11 to see if that would help.

 

However, if there is a technician that can help me here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting on the Intel communities. In order to have a better understanding of the issue, please share with us the following information: 


  1. Does the issue also happen when using Bluetooth?
  2. Have you tried using the drivers provided by Microsoft? 
  3. Were any changes performed recently to the system?
  4. Is the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 the original wireless adapter of the system?
  5. Did you upgrade to Windows* 11 by performing a clean install of the OS?


Please download and install the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU):

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- 

Open the application and select "Everything" click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel SSU will take you to the "Summary View". Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".  

Click on "Next", save the report and attach it to your response.

Hi Josue!

Thanks for helping me.

 

1. The bluetooth function still appears and still works. I am able to turn it on and off.

2. I did a network reset, would that have put them back to the Microsoft drivers? If yes, I tried that and still didn't work.

3. No changes done recently to the system (that I am aware of).

4. It is! I have not changed anything there.

5. I upgraded via windows updates, not sure if that is a clean install.

I have the same issue. My Intel wi-fi 6AX201 160 MHZ network adapter stopped working perhaps 11/30/2021.  Here is the result of my scan:

Please try performing a clean installation of the wireless drivers, for this please follow the instructions present in our article "Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers".

Please perform the clean install using the latest driver available for your system, you can find it in our download center.

In case the clean installation of the drivers doesn't solve the issue, please try performing a clean install of the operating system. In case you need assistance performing this process, please contact Microsoft for specialized support on Windows* installation.

Hi Josue!

Thank you for helping me with those options!

 

Over the weekend, before I had a chance to try them, I noticed one morning that my system had shut down by itself. I rebooted and saw that the wifi had restored itself.

 

I know that doesn't really help anyone else with this same problem unfortunately. But should it happen again, I will try those options you listed above.

I am glad to hear that issue hasn't returned. 


In the case in the future you get again the same issue, please try our recommendations and if they don't work, please contact Microsoft. This is because it could also be a hardware-related issue and they can help you check the status of the card. Also, it is important to contact them in order to get the latest driver provided by them. Usually, Microsoft provides the drivers in boundless instead of drivers for specific parts so it is important to get in touch with them to get assistance with those kinds of issues.
