Intel dual ban AC7260 vs Intel wifi1000 BGN

I have an Asus 302L laptop which has an Intel dual band AC7260 wireless adapter. Also have an ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. My husband has an HP laptop with an Intel wifi Link 1000 BGN wireless adapter. Running speedtest side by side in the room, His measures 82Mbps mine 24. I have the latest intel driver 17.16.0.4 I have tried some of the tweaks on this forum. Nothing is speeding mine up. Any suggestions?

1 - Turn off Bluetooth if not necessary as it uses the same antennas used by WiFi and consequently causing impact to your connection.

2 - Turning off the power saving related functions may help preventing unexpected disconnections, sudden connections speed drops issue and keeping the adapter working at its maximum performance. Please follow the steps below:

3 - Set the Power Savings settings - Go to Control Panel >> Hardware and Sound >> Power Options >> Set to High Performance and apply it to default settings.

4 - You may check the Change Plan Settings >> Change Advanced Power Settings >> Wireless Adapter Setting >> Power Saving Mode and make sure both on battery and plugged in are set to Maximum Performance as shown in the picture below. *Please note that this picture is merely illustrative and may differ from the configurations of your computer.

5 - Set the advanced settings of the adapter:

  • Go to Device Manager >> Network Adapters >> Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC7260, right click on it and select properties.

  • Check the value of Transmit Power and make sure it is set to 5. Highest.
