NETw5s64.sys keeps on giving me bluescreens

My new Clevo M570TU Montevina laptop has a Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN with the latest driver running on Windows 7 x64 (13.0.0.107). I get bluescreens several times a day. If I leave the laptop on when I go to sleep, I often will find that it has automatically restarted because of a BSoD sometime during the night. The stop error is 0x000000d1 and I believe the BSoD says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL refering to NETw5s64.sys.

It seems the BSoD occurs a lot when utilizing the my WLAN connection a bit more than just surfing. That is running 3-4 torrents, streaming Internet radio and surfing at the same time. I use the newest uTorrent client which again uses the latest Java RE (1.8.5 and 6u17). I am at the moment not using any anti virus software.

In addition to the bluescreens, I often lose my WLAN connection. WLAN is however fine on my other laptops. In these cases I get the event ID 5010 referring to NETw5s64 in my in my Event Log. I resolve this issue by disabling and reenabling the WLAN card, but this is very annoying.

I'm starting to think that the driver is faulty, WLAN on Windows 7 x64 is unstable at the moment, or that maybe my WLAN adapter is faulty.

I ran MemTest on my laptop the whole last night without any errors. I am considering trying another torrent client.

Anybody else having these problems? Any tips is highly appreciated as I'm getting fed up.

Update: I've disabled 11n and power saving on the adapter, but it keeps on giving me bluescreens. A Google search shows that this is a common problem with these Intel adapters. It would really be nice if Intel would acknowledge and address these issues.

I apologize for this inconvenience. Please keep in mind the direct support for Intel® wireless adapters is through the computer manufacturer (O.E.M.) since they integrated the adapters in their systems. They will escalate the case to Intel® if necessary as part of a mutual pre-established agreement.

Sony Vaio Z750 laptop, Win7 x64 with WiFi Link 5100 AGN card (driver version 13.0.0.107) and I randomly get the BSODs too. Sometimes even at a fresh startup. Please, Intel, look into this.

I am also using VPCZ1 aka Vaio Z11 - Vaio VPC Z112GX / S - and experience seemingly random crashing (sometimes after sleep, sometimes when I'm simply using Firefox) attributed to NETw5s64.sys .

I did some debugging and eventually found this forum. My original description of my issues and attempts to fix the problem are all in http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/493015-vaio-z11-crashes-not-related-flash-video.html this thread.

Looks like we have to wait for the new driver to go live? It's certainly http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18748&ProdId=3062&lang=eng not available for download yet.

For everyone who check this post regularly like myself.

Lenovo has released the new intel wireless driver as mentioned above please check the lenovo site.

Don't know whether the new driver works, will report later.

Great catch, installing now. Hopefully this will end the BSODs!

I hope Intel will also update their Rapid Storage drivers to prevent audio popping. Go go intel!

Unfortunately that driver is still causing me BSODs. Last sleep attempt resulted in a crash:

I don't know if this will be of any help for you, but I had the exact same problem, albeit with NETw5s32.sys, continues BugCheck BSOD's 0x1D. Even with latest Lenovo/Intel driver (13.2.0.30) on WiFi Link 1000. Was using 802.11n (or g) with WPA2-PSK encryption. After about a week of trying everything I changed the router to limit the encryption to WPA-PSK and the problem seems to have gone away - transfered over 3gb at max throughput (which, by the way, WPA limits 802.11n to 54Mbps).

Hope this helps.

So far so good for me. But I have another clue.

I changed the power setting just before installing the new driver according to

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html

And there was no test of sleep or hibernate during these two steps.

So, it might be the new driver or the new settings.

I have a Vaio VPC-Z1

I installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website.

Unfortunately, still experienced a crash.

This weekend, I'm going to try to do a full re-install.

what encryption are you using? (WPA2 vs WPA). I experienced non-stop BSOD's in Netw5s32.sys with WPA2 that went away when I limited it to WPA.

Unfortunately, I am not in control of the broadcast signal on our WIFI router at work. WPA doesn't work, requires WPA2. Thank you for the suggestion!

I tried a couple of these steps with continual major BSODs on sleep/wake.

I have finally solved the issues on my machine! I went on a crusade removing programs from Add/Remove; Connectify, Lenovo's "Allow Device Power Management Registry Tweak", Intel INF, etc. The computer was still crashing at this point; hanging at sleep which eventually would cause a BSOD. I uninstalled the Realtek NIC drivers and finally the Intel WIFI drivers.

A couple reboots later...... the computer sleeps again!

I wish I knew *exactly* what fixed the issue for me. I assume Connectify was hooking into the WIFI driver causing issues... or the custom registry tweaks from Lenovo messing up the power management in Windows 7. Regardless, the computer wakes and sleeps without any issues after these steps and the latest drivers.

Here's hoping someone can reproduce these 'steps' and fix the problem on their end. I suggest uninstalling the driver completely from device manager and rebooting.

hi jink,

just to isolate the issue wpa2 as causing the bsod, you can try connecting to other wifi networks, like public wifi or coffee shops, that doesn't use wpa2. see if bsod reappears.

Thankfully I've fixed my problems completely. See /message/96013# 96013 http://communities.intel.com/message/96013# 96013 for my explanation on the repair process. I haven't hit one bluescreen with the latest 5100 AGN drivers nor does my computer have any issues with sleeping/resuming.

To reiterate: I uninstalled all network programs such as Connectify, uninstalled my Realtek drivers (using stock win7 drivers), uninstalled/reinstalled 5100 AGN drivers. I've also stopped using RMClock which alleviated by audio popping problems.
