I am sorry for your issue.

At first I would like to suggest this two steps verification:

  1. You may want to check that your system has WiFi connectivity enabled. The system manufacturers usually provide a hardware or software switch for this purpose, sometimes is a combination of both. You may want to take a look into the manufacturer's website just in case you are missing a wireless software switch needed to activate this feature. http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-020275.htm Intel Wi-Fi Products; Wireless radio cannot be enabled from software
  2. Once you checked the first step you may want to check the status of the Intel® wireless adapter driver in Device Manager (Control Panel). By having the WiFi switch enabled the wireless adapter should appear there and show: "This device is working properly". http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-025417.htm Intel Wi-Fi Products; Identify your Intel wireless adapter and driver version number

It is also possible that the device appears as "unknown device" or simply "network adapter" because the driver is missing. It could really help connecting via wired Ethernet in order to install the Intel® driver with the http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu Intel® Driver Update Utility or even let Windows* install its inbox driver via Windows* Updates.

Based on your description I believe this is more of a software issue because of the fresh operating system install, right? Therefore you may consider using the Windows* version provided by the system manufacturer (OEM) instead of a retail version. However, you may need to contact the system manufacturer for assistance in case the wireless adapter does not appear at all after the recommendations presented above.
