Replaced the killer wifi card on laptop ... please help

Got an intel 8265 and 9260 and both do the exact same thing ....

I have to be right beside the router to have any connection at all ... and even then its literally right beside the router.

The 2.4ghz band I can't connect to... used to be able to with the killer card

Also I dont see any wifi networks ... my phone and the older killer card picked up over 8 of them

Any ideas? Drivers are updates .. tried some older ones too. Card is hooked up correctly. I even did a clean install to make sure killer wifi was removed.

So I basically can only connect to my 5ghz if I'm right in front of it.

You cannot simply replace your wireless adapters. You must coordinate with the laptop manufacturer.

Others with the same laptop have successfully made the switch by simply replacing the card and installing the drivers ... it's an msi gs63vr.... it works on my machine (poorly) and it is recognized

Read the last paragraph of the first link.

"The only retail wireless adapters currently supported by Intel are the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth® for Desktop, and the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 Desktop Kit. These retail products are intended to be installed in Desktop PC with the antennas bundled in the box. They are not intended for wireless adapter upgrade in laptop PC."

I appreciate your help so far... I'm not well versed in these things.

I'm confused though ... people upgrade their laptops with different cards all the time. The link at the bottom for instance, many people used the 8265 in a laptop. Can you just give me a little more detail, I've been literally trying to figure this out for 8 hours. I'm going to order the original killer 1535 and im guessing that will work? I'll send you a 9260 for your trouble... I have two useless ones. So intel doesnt make wifi cards for laptops anymore?

Sorry in advance.

Those who upgrade their wireless cards without contacting the OEM are taking a risk. Else, why would Intel publish the two documents I linked you to?

Intel's cards are used in laptops, as the OEM/integrator/manufacturer plans and designs for.

Other than COMPLETELY removing all wireless adapter drivers, and Installing the latest from Intel, I have no suggestions. I would download the latest driver (FROM INTEL ONLY) and try that. Also, make sure you have the latest bios installed for your laptop. Check with the manufacturer on the proper procedure for doing a bios update and then reset to default.

Perhaps one of the Intel support engineers can assist you further.
