Slow download speed 2,4 ghz, Intel wireless-ac 9462

Yesterday i started a brand new laptop computer with an Intel wireless-ac 9462 adapter.

I noticed that the download speed on 2,4 ghz is very low (less than 1 mbit/s), upload speed around 3 mbit/s. Only nearby the router (less than 2 meter) download speed gets a little better, max 6 mbit/s. Connection is fragile, regular disconnecting and reconnecting occurs.

With a different laptop and iphone on the same 2,4 ghz network at the same place download speed is about 19 mbit/s, upload around 3 mbit/s.

These speeds are normal for my network. Also tested the laptops and iphone on a different network comming from a different router, same problem.

5 ghz seems to be working fine/better. Download speed at this network on the 9462 adapter is around 19 mbit/s, upload around 3 mbit/s. This is the same as on the laptop and iphone i am comparing.

I have, after experiencing this problem, used several different by intel recommended settings for the adapter. This has not made a difference.

Next i have updated windows 10. This did not make a difference. Then i have updated the driver of the 9462 adapter, this didn't make a difference.

I have also checked all relevant settings on the two different routers i use, none of these changes made a difference.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Hello Amy,

See the file attached in this reaction, this report is made while using a 5ghz wifi connection.

To me it seems like the RX side of the adapter has issues while the TX side seems to be unaffected.

Hope the information in the report helps solving the problem, if you need any other information please let me know.

Regards,

Koen

This report was made while using a 2,4 ghz wifi connection with the laptop at a distance of aprox 5 meters and a human in the line of sight between the laptop and AP.

What i notice is that bitrate drops significantly.

Thank you for the file.

Please, try with a clean installation of the wireless driver from your computer manufacturer. Here you can find the steps for the clean installation: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers. Please, try with our generic driver.

Hello Amy,

I have tried with the generic driver, sadly the problem is still there. See the file attached.

I think it must be a hardware problem. The best thing to do, i think, is to return the laptop to the reseller for repair or replacement?

In this case, the best thing is to check with their support. Only them can confirm if it is needed a repair or replacement.

I'm also having this issue on my Gigabyte Sabre 15 laptop, but I didn't notice it until I upgraded my fibre line from 50/10 to 100/100.

My Sony phone, next to my laptop, gets 100/100 on my 5GHz wifi, but my laptop gets nowhere near that on the download only - uploads fine at 100, but download is always 30-40 Mbps slower.

I have deleted & re-installed the drivers, no change.

I have rolled back to a previous version, no change.

What else can I do now?
