Upgrade WLAN card in laptop

Hello and thanks for the opportunity to join! I am maybe a few steps above a novice, maybe a little more. Am wondering if it's possible to upgrade the original WLAN module in my HP Pavilion dv8 (1000ce Entertainment) to a newer, faster one that can utilize all the capabilities of my new T-P Link ArcherC5400 tri-band router. The card currently running is the Intel wifi link 5100 AGN with Intel driver version 14.2.1.4

Please tell me if possible and maybe recommend a few good cards that will work. I fully appreciate any and all help you can offer to me!!

Thanks, roosterblue1

Hello roosterblue1,

We advise you to check with http://support.hp.com/us-en/ HP support or its authorized service provider to know if a newer Intel® Wireless Adapter is compatible with your computer and have it replaced with them if possible.

The main reason why you should check with HP is that Intel® WiFi Link 5100 was available in 2 form factors PCIe Mini Card and PCIe Half Mini Card. Checking the specs of your new access point, you could look for an adapter that supports 802.11ac. Most of the http://ark.intel.com/products/family/59484/Intel-Wireless-Products newer Intel® Wireless Adapters use M.2 form factor, however, the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is available in PCIe Half Mini Card, you might ask your HP rep if it is compatible with your PC.

Please keep in mind that custom integrations are not supported by Intel since this may lead to installation errors, connection issues, software error messages, and in some cases it may even be illegal.

Intel does not recommend end users install or upgrade the various Intel® Wireless Adapter.
