Hi!

I bought a computer and installed Ubuntu 21.04 (kernel >5.1 as asked by the AX200), everything works fine, including bluetooth, but I get the message: "Wi-Fi Adapters not found".

When I run lshw-C network I get network unclaimed

Product: Realtek etc...

I have read that it may be a firmware problem but I'm not sure if it's that and I'm new to Linux so I don't want tomess anything up...

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

D

Hello Bumblebee,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. The brand and model number of your system. You can also provide the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* Operating System for more details: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26735/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-the-Linux-Operating-System

2. Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed on your computer or did you change/install the adapter to this one?

3. Have you update your drivers and BIOS?

4. Did you noticed the issue after a system update?

5. Run the following commands and send us the outcome:

· modinfo iwlwifi > If there is no output, then the module isn’t installed this is the distribution installation issue.

· lsmod | grep iwlwifi > If the result is empty, the driver hasn't been loaded. Most likely to be a distribution issue.

· To verify, please type: dmesg | grep iwlwifi > If the result is empty, the driver wasn’t initialized and this is a distribution issue. If there is a result populated, proceed with the next step.

· dmesg | grep “no suitable firmware found!” > If the result is not empty, it means you don't have a suitable FW (API mentioned in the dmesg).

· Please visit here: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi for supported FW, or here https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/ for the latest versions.

6. If the above steps don't work, collect the debug data:

Type: dmesg | grep ASSERT

If the output is empty, please follow this wiki: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi/debugging to extract dmesg and trace-cmd.

If the output has value, please collect it from the wiki FW dump too.

Hello Deivid,

Thank you for your response. Here is the information you ask for:

It is a hp pavilion ec2013ns. The only thing I did wac change the OS from FreeDOS to Ubuntu 21.04. Didn't touch anything else.

  • modinfo iwlwifi: Saved in txt file
  • lsmod | grep iwlwifi: No output
  • dmesg | grep iwlwifi:  dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted
  • The rest of the commands give: dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted

What does this mean?

I also asked in askubuntu, and the person who helped me reached the conclusion that for some reason I don't have the AX-200 since when introducing this command:

lspci -nnk | grep 0280 -A3

I get this:

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec:8852] DeviceName: Realtek Wireless LAN + BT Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:88e1] 04:00.0 Non-Volatile memory controller [0108]: Sandisk Corp WD Black SN750 / PC SN730 NVMe SSD [15b7:5006]

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello Bumblebee,

Thanks for the information provided.

Seems to be that the file attached is not from the Intel® System Support Utility, since it does not contain any information about your system. I will appreciate it if you can run the Intel® System Support Utility more time and attach it.

Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

· Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer:  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26735/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-the-Linux-Operating-System

· Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

· To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

Hello,

Finally we discovered (thanks to the forum Askubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1352260/wifi-adapter-not-found-realtek-10ec8852-on-ubuntu-21-04) that the Wi-Fi card provided was in fact not Intel, but Realtek. The vendors are checking where the mistake originated.

Thank you very much for your support,

D
