WiFi 6 AX200 160mhz not performing well, disconnecting at random times

My AX200 has been not performing up to expectations. It only gets on average 150 mbps dn and 40mpbs up, while it could ideally be getting up to 2gbps. It also has been disconnecting from the internet at random times. My speeds were actually better on my old router/modem, around 350mpbs.

System specs:
Ryzen 5 3400g

G. Skill Trident Z RGB 16gb 3200mhz

MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

Intel AX200 160mhz

Hello @Warblingpants67

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

We were checking the website for the motherboard MSI B450 Tomahawk Max*, and we couldn't find any reference to a wireless card built-in module, neither on the specifications section* nor on the user's manual*. We also checked the "LAN Adapters Compatibility"* list and there is no reference to "Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200".

Also, it seems that there are no customized drivers* from MSI* for this board and wireless card. In this case, could you please confirm if you integrated the wireless card on the motherboard?

Please also provide us with the following details:

1- If you integrated the wireless card, is it an Intel® Wireless adapter or a third-party wireless card with a built-in AX200 chipset?

2- Did the wireless connection work fine before at any time? Or is the issue happening since the very first day that you have the system?

3- If this worked fine before, do you remember if this issue happened after a new Windows update or Wireless/Bluetooth driver update?

4- What is the current Internet speed that you have for your ISP service? Is this behavior happening on the Internet (when browsing the web) and/or the LAN (your local network, for instance, transferring data to another device in your network)?

How are you monitoring/measuring the speed?

5- When this issue happens, is there any error message? Perhaps on the Windows notification area or in Device Manager?

6- Have you checked if this issue happens testing only the system and the router? (no other wireless devices connected to the wireless network during this test).

7- Have you tried with an AX router? Have you rebooted your access-point, router, modem?

8- Router/Access point brand and model:

Please also run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report to this thread to gather more details about your system.

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

Note:

The fact that the wireless card was reaching a higher speed with another router (the old router) could be an indication that it is not an issue with the wireless card or drivers, but an issue with compatibility or wireless/router settings. Old routers usually only supported legacy standards which have support for speeds around 150Mbps to 450Mbps (e.g. for the 802.11n standard). It could be that the wireless card was working fine and at the maximum speed supported by that old router. Could this be the case? Please feel free to provide more details or clarifications.

Best regards,

Hello Warblingpants67

We have not heard back from you so we will proceed to close this thread now. If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

If the issue persists and if we couldn't find much information on the motherboard website about compatibility and drivers for the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200, our recommendation is to check this further with the motherboard (MSI* Support) and router manufacturers for more assistance and debugging.

Best regards,
